I have been selling on ebay for over a year and I'd like advice on how I get the ebay discounted rates for my shipping labels.  I end up paying what my buyer pays for shipping.  Therefore, I am usually in the minus for any kind of profit.  Ive been trying to figure out if i did something when i initially signed up to sell but i cant even access that info.  Please advise.  I enjoy selling on ebay but not getting any profit is taking its toll.  Thank you!!

If you buy your label through eBay you automatically get the shipping discount.  What you have control over is if you want pass that discount along to your buyer or not.   Go to your shipping preferences to adjust if you want your buyer to pay retail or the eBay rate.  You can also add $1-2 handling on your items.  The handling charges is not sown as a separate charge, it is included in the shipping cost.    The handling charge can be applied to cover packaging cost and the FVF attached to shipping...totally up to you if you want to do that

Assuming you're using eBay, Stamps.com, PirateShip or another discounted-rate 3rd party labeler, you're already getting the discounted rate

I'm guessing that maybe your eBay shipping preferences are not set properly, and you're passing thru and charging your customers the discounted rate. If that's the case and you don't want to, go to your My eBay. In the top left click on the down arrow next to your name, then Account Settings > Shipping Preferences > Rates & Exclusions > Carrier Rate Settings. It should say Standard Rates Without Discount. That will charge your customer the standard carrier shipping rates and let you get the discounted eBay rates. If it doesn't say that, click Edit and change it.

You also have the option of adding a handling charge when you list your items or edit a listing.

Others may chime in here with other ideas.

Cheers, Duffy

Of course you are paying for what the buyer pays but the buyer has paid you for that shipping.  If you are in the minus then you have priced too low.   What is probably hurting your profit margins are the Ebay final value fees (FVF) that also include that shipping and the sales taxes.  The FVF is a killer for lower priced items that you and I sell.  Raise your prices.  By the way, you get slightly discounted shipping rates just by purchasing shipping labels on Ebay.  But again, that is not your problem.
