I can tell you since selling again on ebay that in all cases the buyers in my auctions paid for shipping and in the end I never saw a dime of that money. Not only did a rep over the phone from ebay admit to me that ebay pockets the total shipping cost that buyers pay but then I also have to buy the shipping labels and not once has the sellers shipping payment been reimbrsed to me for my costs. So ebay is engaging in a huge borderline shipping scam here by charging the seller the shipping cost and charging me to ship it. In both cases I paid over $21 to ship and the buyer paid $25-$31 and I never seen any of that money nor was I refunded the costs at all, not even half the costs to ship it. Thats not fair at all given I also paid $29 in ebay fees. its not right at all that ebay is doing this on shipping. Th reps ever th phone have also been trained in a way to try to explain it away but they trip all over their explanation and the numbers do not add up That is it for me. I will sell elsewhere.

When the buyer pays, they pay you for the item and what ever shipping charge is shown in the listing.
Ebay takes their cut 12.9% +.30 and the rest is sent to you.
You have to pay the carrier to deliver the item from the money you receive.
Ebay does not keep your shipping funds, the carrier gets it.

What eBay shipping charges? Ebay doesn’t sell anything, therefore they can’t charge you for “nothing”. Ask your seller instead. If you ask EBay your query will go nowhere.

Sorry that someone told you that but it is
100% False information.
YOU ARE GETTING the shipping $ that YOU charge on your listings; then you pay for the shipping label.

That is nonsense. eBay does not keep the shipping amount your customer pays. Click on the payments tab in seller hub and then click on any order/sale and it will show you a very detailed description of exactly what money you received and what fees were subtracted.

Remember that you're also paying FVFs on the shipping. After those fees, you will net nearly $22-$27... with which you pay for your $21 label. You'll not be 'refunded' for that... it was paid to your carrier. I'd offer that you raise your s&h cost.

The Boots you sold for $180 with $31 Shipping; you were paid $211 (minus fees) of which you then pay for the shipping label.
If it was taxed at average 8%, buyer would have paid:
$227
-$16 Tax paid by buyer
-$28 Fee
Would have given you $183- then you pay for that shipping label.

"...Not only did a rep over the phone from ebay admit to me that ebay pockets the total shipping cost that buyers pay..."
Of course you have the transcript of this revelation....right?
You have 885 feedback, and you don't know how a sale is booked...
how the buyer pays for the shipping you list...
you pay for the shipping from the total proceeds you received from the total sale...
I am flummoxed again.......

of those 855, OP has 3 "seller" feed backs. (more than a year ago)

@monica-sells "I am flummoxed again......." << You said it.
"... since selling again..." in your OP gives me pause. You have read about this, right? >> Payments on hold | eBay
ETA: Not that shipping isn't a bear to master, and math is another beast...

Wrong, buyer paid $31. That cost went straight to ebay. It did not pay for the shipping and I didnt see a dime of that to pay for shipping so explain where that $31 th seller paid in shipping fees went seeing as how when ebay paid me that $31 was not in the payout. Not only did I pay $21 out of pocket to ship as instruted by ebay but ebay also took th buyers $31 in shipping costs , its clealy thre in the reciept and the ebay rep confirmed it and said that I should just charge a buyer more money on top of the money ebay pockets in the shipping cost listed in invoice. Unral.

Wanna bet? Its there in th invoice. $180 for the ending sale +31.95 shipping cost plus tax.
That $31 didnt go to me to pay for shipping and it certainly did not go into the payout
I made in the end so you explain the missing $31. Happed twice already. Not only is the buyer scammed on the shippig cost but so am I.

To really 'figure this' I just need to know:
How much DID you get from that sale?

A transcript on a phone call? Seriously? The rep said I should charge more to recoup shipping, why is that necessary if the buyer paid $31 and that money did not carry over into the ending amount? Im not poriffiting here when the $31 is not carried over to cover shipping and it clearly shows in the invoice and my ending payout that the shipping cost got eaten.

The combined people that are responding have probably sold and shipped over 100,000 items in 10+ years and NEVER NOT received the shipping $$.
So again, to really 'figure this out', what did you 'get' from the $180 Boot sale?
