Ebay did not recognize my printing the shipping label on Jan 15th.

I printed the shipping label and shipped a return item back on Jan 15th, but got an email on January 16th stating the case was closed due to not printing the label on Jan 15th, but I did.  How can I contest this?

I am not sure how to contest anything with ebay these days.  Here is what happened to me, and then you can decide.

I have received a defect because the package, although I sent and uploaded it on time, was lost by USPS.  When the buyer filed a case, I called them, called ebay, filed a missing package claim with USPS, harped on USPS who kept telling me to be patient until it was found.  Ebay told me not to worry it was not my fault. Next thing I know the buyer was refunded their money from my paypal account by ebay and I have a defect.  I tried to talk to ebay about this to at least get the defect removed, and got the canned responses that since there was not seller resolution and ebay stepped in, I have a defect.  I asked where is this policy for this type of case and got not answer.  I tried to ask for someone else to speak to and was refused. I also have been with ebay 8 years, and have never had anything like this happen to me before.  The rep just kept saying that the policy is when ebay has to intervene I will have a defect.  I am so very disappointed in ebay. This is not right.  I am also sorry what happened to you.  They do not seem to have any ears anymore, just canned responses.

The eBay time clock gives you a date, but in actuallity the time clock is by hours. 24hr X # of days allotted.

If the required shipping date for the return was the 15th, the cutoff may not have been by 11:59PM on that day for the acceptance scan to be in.

The cutoff time starts when the label is issued. X # of hours from that time. That could be 00:01AM. Your time to get the item scanned could have run out before you physically shipped the item on the day required.

When you print the label also does not matter. The scan within the designated timeframe is all that counts.

If you paid by PayPal you may be able to open a case there. You may be able to provide that tracking # as proof of returning the item.

Thank you so much for the reply.  So as I understand it, Ebay back dates everything 24 hours so when I received the email stating I needed to print the label before January 16th, they really meant before January 15th as I printed the label around 3am on January 15th.  So based on what you are stating, we can not trust Ebay to be etihical or responsible for dates given, that information to me is extremely helpful, so thank you!  With today's technology, why can they not give a date and time?  I fully adhered to the date and now out over $110 and have no way of contacting Ebay.  PayPal also is blocking all requests on purchases over 30 days old.  I will follow up on this but at this point Ebay is not being ethical as I see it.  The only thing that may have happened is that Ebay software has a HUGE bug in it for shipping labels.  I do not know this to be the case, but I see no other reason for Ebay to be so fragrantly abusive on what was stated on shipping times in the email sent to me.  I do greatly appreciate the reply.  Ya, lessons learned, never buy from any user having less than 100 positive feedbacks and never purchase an item over $10.  Just the way it is...

For me, it's even worse.  I mailed the package via the drop box on Monday January 15th which was a holiday, but the USPS tracking information stated 10:50PM on January 16th, with it arriving in Denver an hour or so later.  The postmarked date from USPS tracking was over one day off.  So if you use any Ebay shipping label it is highly recommended to allow over 24 hours before it is postmarked as that is not really the postmark date but when USPS sends it to the next city.  Ya, I can experiment with it, but in no way should the package be postmarked 10:50pm on the day after you mail it directly to USPS.  This is not right.  As you know we all pay taxes to USPS to subsidize China and other countries for shipping in the US.  Foreign countries can ship in the US for a fraction of the cost it costs you and I in the US.  That is also wrong and based on trade sanctions.  I still order many things on Ebay from China and have a good experience with them much more so than anyone in the US.  Just based on my experience.

The deadline date is for mailing the item, not just for printing the label. It sounds as if the package didnt have an acceptance scan from USPS so ebay wouldn’t know that it has been mailed.

Does tracking show that the seller has received the item back?

Thank you so much for the reply.  Yes the tracking item shows the item was received back from the seller.  The email I received from Ebay did NOT state the shipping date, but the printing of the label, but I did print the label AND ship it before the printing label date as indicated from Ebay.  I will directly quote what was sent to me from Ebay so there is no confusion.  Basically purchased an item not as advertised, shipped it back and now Ebay will not respond at all.  Really sucks to be me now:(  Paid the money and shipping and now have nothing.

OK, this is quoted from Ebay in the email I received from them:

"You must send the item back to the seller by 16.01.2018 to be eligible to receive a refund. You can either print the label on eBay from the Resolution Center or use your own label and submit the tracking information in your case in the Resolution Center. If you use your own label, you may not be reimbursed for the return shipping. Once the item has been returned to the seller, you will be issued a refund. The seller's shipping address and shipping instructions are available in the Resolution Center. Please remember to submit your tracking information by 16.01.2018."

This states that I need to send them tracking information before January 16th if I do not use their shipping label, or print and ship the item using their printing label before January 16th.  I printed and shipped the item directly to USPS on January 15th.  Now the seller has my money and what he sold me and I can not contact Ebay on this issue.  Furthermore PayPay seems to be blocking all my purchases over 30 days old even though there are tabs to select up to 3 months.  Of course I am not happy and extremely frustrated with this Ebay experience.

That message clearly says you have to send (ship) BY 1/16, it says nothing about printing it by that date.  You needed an acceptance scan or any PO scan on the 15th. Why don’t you try appealing the case? If you can’t do it in the resolution center, To get ebays number just use the help & contact link at the top of the page
