Did you mean:

Ebay Standard envelope rollout is an absolute mess

First the post office has no clue about this, they say this is all ebay nothing to do with them.

Second why roll something out that your (outsourced) customer service reps are completely clueless on when you call for assistance, typical ebay customer service.

I have called 3 different times to get clarification on the process of filing a insurance claim on the joke standard envelope service, but of course you have to wait 30 days, after the case not after the sale, I found that out on my own, one rep actually just put me on hold and hung up because he was so clueless, also something ebay has never improved on is terrible service.

Third, there is no way of tracking these unless they are scanned by postal machines, well that only happens about 30% of the time, so it seems pretty strategic by ebay to make a 30 day time limit to file an insurance claim as a seller, but buyers can still file INR claims all willy nilly like. Seems t me like ebay is banking on sellers forgetting or just flat out giving up on small insurance claims.

When will ebay actually do something that helps sellers and makes selling easier an faster. No instead they bait you in with promises that really are false.

If it has any value, I would pack better than an envelope.

Re: Ebay Standard envelope rollout is an absolute mess

That defeats the whole purpose of rolling this program out, it is supposed to keep shipping down for cards

@legacycoins

Do you realize that for the envelop to work its way through the sorting machines where it gets scanned the envelop will be bent around drums that make a 45-degree angle and in some cases a 90-degree bend?  If the card going to arrive at the buyer in the same condition as listed with that kind of handling?

Re: Ebay Standard envelope rollout is an absolute mess

My PO makes me add a .24 non-machinable charge to each envelope.  Then, I assume it is hand processed and not ran through the sorting machine.  So, now only about half of my envelopes even get scanned.  I have shipped out well over 200 so far.

Yes, Ebays customer service is god awful!!!  90% of their service reps barley speak English and can't even comprehend what the heck I am trying to tell them.  How disgusting for a company that is built on individual sellers doing all their work to not give a **bleep** about said sellers.  Buyers get all the protection sellers get the SHAFT!!!!

Really? The Standard Envelope was rolled out specifically for shipping single trading cards $20 dollars or less. They shouldn't be bending them all.

@foxvalleyresale

That would appear to be a result of the method one is using for shipping: the envelop in the USPS's estimation it is too rigid.

I think you are not alone, many rushed into this program as a "great idea" without digging into the specifics.  With eBay "the devil is in the details"!  Sigh.

From the Terms and Conditions:

Parcels
Your Parcel must comply with the size and weight limits which are shown when you select a delivery option at the time you place your order. A failure to comply with these limits may result in delays, postponement or cancellation of the Services. You may also be liable for additional charges.

C. Envelope thickness is uniform, less than 0.25 inches at all points, and not too rigid

Parcels that are inappropriately packaged
We may not accept items for delivery which in the reasonable opinion of our Carriers are inappropriately packaged. Carriers may, in their sole discretion, decide to repack your Parcel to comply with certain requirements for which you may incur additional charges to cover the price of repackaging. Please note that Carriers are under no obligation to secure the safety of your shipments nor to carry out any repackaging. By using our Services you acknowledge in these circumstances that additional charges may be levied (see paragraph 9) or that your Parcel may be rejected. We shall not be liable or responsible for any damage caused to Parcels that are inappropriately packaged or are repackaged by Carriers as a result of their being inappropriately packaged.

Oh and did you see this little "gem" in the TOS?

Label charges

Charges for labels will be as set out in your order. Label charges for this program are non-refundable and non-voidable once the label is printed. Additional Charges may apply in certain circumstances which are described below in the section titled “Additional Charges”. You are committed to payment of the charges when you print the label (including additional charges). Total charges, including additional charges, if any, are calculated once we receive invoices from our suppliers based on actual shipping costs. Each time you use a label, the total charge will be added to your monthly eBay invoice and will be payable under the terms of your eBay Billing Agreement. For Managed Payments Sellers, the charges and additional charges are payable in a manner consistent with the Payments Terms of Use.

So if you mess up and are unable to use a label and decide to just print an entirely new one, you still get charged for the first one.

I get it, it stinks.  Hey, I didn't write the rules - don't shoot the messenger! 😎

@points13

Yeah, I get it.  Doesn't make sense, but as I noted above, the devil is in the details.

I guess if one has a card that is in pristine condition it needs to be shipped as "non-machinable" or as a FCP.

This "idea" was apparently pushed by an eBay Exec who is a collector too and wanted a way for low end cards to be sold.  Perhaps the idea was for cards that are already bent or dog-eared?  Certainly if condition is an issue and the bends these envelops will encounter will damage the card or reduce its value, then one needs to consider the use of the SE as a business risk.

Just trying to point out "how it is" as reality isn't as cracked up as I or others would like.😇
