I can't blame your frustration , but honestly as a seller in the United States it is the only way I will sell outside the United States . It protects me from chargebacks , delayed delivery times for international packages that are completely out of my control (hence getting unwarranted negative feedback) , people getting angry at me about taxes fees duties that their country imposes.
I stopped selling internationally many years ago, but opted into this program because it is the only way as a seller I'm protected .

Well, I take an opposite view:
I can't blame your frustration , but honestly as a seller in the United States it is the only way I will sell outside the United States
The ONLY time I use eBay international is for packages over 4 pounds. And those are very rare. All other international packages cost me significantly less than what eBay is charging.
It protects me from chargebacks ,
As I read it you are protected against “item not received claims and chargebacks” only. Chargebacks for not as described or damaged in transit looks like they are not covered.
But - how many have you actually had? I haven’t had any. If you could save 10-15% on shipping versus few to minimal chargebacks I suggest the savings more than offset the occasional costs. And if you are having a significant number of chargebacks then (and I mean no disrespect) you might want to review your own procedures.
delayed delivery times for international packages that are completely out of my control (hence getting unwarranted negative feedback)
And yet the OP’s seller used eBay international and they ARE complaining about delays and judging by their tone a negative feedback is still a possibility.
people getting angry at me about taxes fees duties that their country imposes.
eBay precharges the taxes and fees regardless of what shipping method you use so this is a non-issue.

I’ve been selling internationally since 2004 and I have had no more problems with international than I have with domestic.

I also would not sell internationally without this program. In the past I did ship internationally myself. I found a problem rate of about 1/7 shipments, far too many for me to continue. Shipments to Italy were the worst, I got refund requests because the item was stuck in customs. I got nasty messages saying I should have lied about the contents of the package to save the buyer customs fees. Not worth the effort.
For many years I simply sold US only. Since using the EIS program I've had one item never picked up from customs, 1 item that "got wet" and the carrier refused to deliver it (a silver coin, hmmm), and a missing item. In no case did it cost me anything. I don't sell as much international as in the old days, but more than when I simply would not do it.

Wow! It has been in Illinois the entire time! Didn't even have to be shipped from Alaska or southern Florida or southern California. Illinois to Illinois.
I'm sorry, OP. Wasting all that time in one single state, without even leaving the country is crazy, especially when it takes so long to get through customs in most countries. Your item hasn't even begun its real journey yet.
Just WOW!

It might be too many packages coming in and the hub can no longer handle the onslaught of so many packages.
So, I mailed a letter with no tracking to Australia...buyer opened a claim due to it being a week plus late....it finally arrived the other day and buyer closed case. I think your item might take longer than usual. My Australian buyer has mentions the International Mail is taking longer than usual these days to Australia.
I don't know why.

Timely shipping and Ebay international shipping are not compatible. That said, don't buy anything from me, I only ship internationally through this service, it is not worth the extra effort to do it any other way. Until this became available I simply went over a decade with no international shipping.

Yes it adds a lot of time to delivery. Even worse, eBay turns that option on for sellers without telling them. Then buyers get unhappy with the seller over the delay. As a seller I would not use that service as it takes too long. However, eBay turned it on and I first found out when a sale was made using it.
Don't take it out on the seller. They have no control over it. I under stand the time it adds to delivery but, have no control.
