I shipped two items together - combining shipping to save the buyer money - and bought the label on ebay. Nevertheless when I copied and pasted the tracking number from the one transaction to the other, I got a draconian message that the number was not valid. I thought the number just wasn't "caught" in the system yet and so just waited, trying several times throughout the day with the same results. Again this morning. Finally, I ignored the warning and entered it.
Now I realize that ebay will ding me for uploading the tracking number late even though the package was mailed as promised and the buyer was well informed about the combined shipping. GRRRR!!
Worse still, there are numerous messages/complaints about ebay not accepting valid tracking numbers through out these boards dating back a year or more. And comments/complaints about the, therefore unwarranted warning message...
GRRRR! Ebay, FIX YOUR OWN PROBLEMS don't demote my "performance" for your problem!!

The last time I did that (just a few days ago), it worked fine. After printing the label for one item, I marked the other one (that went into the same package) as Shipped, then added the tracking label from the first one.
Since you got a message that the number was "not valid" rather than already used, I'm thinking that you had some hidden codes getting copied and pasted along with the visible number itself. The next time this happens to you, open a Notepad window (or other plain text editor) and paste the tracking number in there first. Then do a fresh copy of it out of Notepad (i.e. double-click to highlight the entire number end-to-end, then press Ctrl+C) and paste it into the eBay form window with a Ctrl+V. Notepad will strip off any hidden codes, so that what you copy out of the Notepad window will be only the visible digits themselves.

I having a similar problem and eBay refuses to fix or recognize it. When I look at my Dashboard under Tracking not validated and uploaded on time recently, I had 18 packages showing Uploaded on time but no carrier scan. Even though the packages clearly had been uploaded on time and scanned by my post office, there is clearly a disconnect between the PayPal and eBay systems, or eBay's systems clearly has a flaw since March when this problem started occurring.
I have been on the phone with eBay support for a couple of hours over a 4-day period trying to get this resolved, but they are ignoring that anything is wrong with their systems. I have asked to speak to supervisors and none of them have called me back. They keep trying to pass this off as a post office problem, and it clearly is not. I am doing everything the exact same way I have for the past several years, and all of a sudden in March this glitch occurs and eBay won't acknowledge it. My Shipping Top Rated status went from about 98% to only Above standard at about 83% now because of this glitch.
If anyone else is having this problem, please report it to eBay ASAP, so they can start taking it seriously.
