Dropped my package at USPS 5 days back and no update! Should I be worried?

Hello everyone,

Before anyone says it, I should say myself: I was stupid enough to drop boxes containing $900 worth of item.

Now, that I have said it, I am losing hope that it will ever show up and that I have lost my money. I reached post office a little late, they were already closed by then. But, then my stupid mind thought of dropping it in those big drop metal thingy. My reasoning at that time was that if I drop it now, it will get scanned the first thing in the morning and save me my driving time to the PO. Well, it seems like this is the worst decision of my life. And, I made all the wrong choices that day. Moving forward, I reached them on Saturday to see why it is not scanned. They said wait till Monday and if it is not scanned till then, come back. Nothing till yesterday. I went there to encounter the most rude employee. She asked me the tracking number and then checked online as I would have done it and said it shows nothing here. And, when I said that I dropped it on Thursday, she just said it is your fault that you dropped it there and now bear with it. If you cannot stand in line, we cannot help. After a mild heated exchange, she gave me address of the processing center and said to go there and ask them. It was 10 miles away and I drove there. I was not surprised when the lady there said the same thing that she cannot find anything with the given number and there is no way I can access the processing center. So, just wait till something pops up.

First of all the lady at the PO where I dropped it was rude and then sent me on a goose chase knowing that there were no goose in the first place. Today is the 5th day and I am losing hope unless someone here faced similar situation. And that it was updated even after a week or so of delay is when I will have some hope left for the package.

Any insight on this issue from experienced sellers will be appreciated. I am really new to this and still trying to learn from my mistakes.

I knew this question will come but this is about a sale I did on a different platform but I find this community much active and much better at helping other sellers out. @mtgraves7984 Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I understand if people decide not to provide suggestions just that I didn't sell it on eBay but I believe this community is much more inclusive and diverse than that.

Much of my tracking shows the PO is not scanning all packages on arrivial at this time.   Everything has a delay, some as much as a week for Priority.  The only significant scan needed is the delivery scan and they seem to be opting for this.   They are too busy to function as they normally have.

I had a similar problem with my package being shipped out of GA on 11/30.  On 12/4, the tracking update side the package would be arriving late and in transit.  No scans after 12/4.  I live in OH.

On 12/6, I googled usps shipping problems and came across these sites.   On the "downdetector" site, using my tracking number, the person answering questions, updated me on the status of my package.  The package got moving and was scanned on 12/7 in Akron, OH.  Today, on 12/8 the package was scanned at the downtown Cleveland Facility.  Most likely, I will receive the package tomorrow.

Thumbs up!

I use USPS exclusively. I think you're fine. Fingers crossed and good luck!

Hold on, it's not over. Keep checking on the USPS site. Don't rely only on eBays updates.

Keeping a good thought for you,

I live in OH too and it seems like you had similar issue as mine. And given that yours was updated after a week, I can imagine the same for my package too. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for those links. I was able to post a comment on servicedown but not able to post on downdetector.

should you be worried?:  Yes

No input scan: no packages delivered to the PO.

That is the USPS opinion on the subject.

Yet it may show up later, downs the trail so to speak.

Use the USPS site to track, as that also seems to be messed up on other sites as well.

Although I always have my packages scanned when I drop them off, I am still going through something that I sent to Pennsylvania that has shown scanned, left, gone on, back again, nothing then finally today, it shows out for delivery.

Not anything as valuable as yours,  but it is what is happening due to the obvious problems across the country.  I am in California.

Keep checking.  I think it will work out.

I should also mention about this. So, after that rude lady's exchange and before her sending me on a wild goose chase, there was this another sweet lady and she was way better than the other employee. I wish everyone can be like her. So, I was standing in the lobby trying to decide whether I should go or not to the processing center, she came and told me that because of COVID and Fedex & UPS diverting a lot of their shipments to USPS, it has formed a long queue. And, she gave advice same as that rude lady but just look at the way the comments were made by both the ladies.

The rude one told me, "If you cannot wait for a day and cannot come to us to get your packages scanned, there's nothing much we can do to help." The sweet one told me, "Son, I understand that you wanted to ship it early and thought that dropping it will work. But remember that you will not get a receipt if you are dropping it which means if anything untoward happens to your package, you are making your life difficult by just dropping and not grabbing a receipt."

I was amazed by the stark difference in impact both the statements made while having the same meaning. She was such a sweet lady.

Anyways, thanks for the positive replies everyone. Hoping a positive ending.

That's because he's taking any customers off of Ebay with his 2 listings.

Have a great day.

sometimes they wont scan it till its across the country if its a 2 day package because they wont deliver it in 2 days .  it makes it look like it was the sellers fault 😐
