My buyer sent a message asking me to ship to a different address than the one on file through ebay. He paid with paypal, but also this is not a verified address through Paypal either. I called ebay customer service and they said it's ok to ship to a different address. However in the past, in order to have seller protection through ebay and paypal, we needed to ship only to a verified address. Has this really changed now? Just checking and thanks in advance!

While eBay says it's okay for an eBay INR if they can see the request in a message, it's not okay for a PayPal INR claim. PayPal has bottom line control of my money - I listen to them.
I have been known to throw caution to the wind and ship to a different address if it's not a high value scam magnet, but it is a risk and you have to decide what's best for you.

Are you sure the message is from the actual buyer? It's from the account that won the item? Just asking because there is a scam going around where a scammer contacts you as if they are the original buyer and they ask you to ship to another address. If you aren't paying attention, you won't notice it's a different user ID contacting you. But even if it's not that scam, you have to ship to the addresss on the PayPal account in order to have full seller protection. eBay will cover you if you have messages from the actual buyer but PayPal will not.

FYI, you don't need a verified address in PayPal to ship to. Whatever address is there on the transaction page is the address to which you need to ship.

DO NOT change the address. You will lose in any case a buyer submits if you've touched the address file in any way. This address issue comes up often on my accounts. So often I have a form reply where I cancel the sale (because of address), kindly explain how they can changed/add ship addresses and then once it's fixed it will work for all their future purchases...and they can reorder my item whenever they're ready after updating. This has worked flawlessly. Legitimate buyers generally follow through. Scammers disappear. Don't set yourself up for this kind of thing-you lose one of these cases you not only lose the money but often the product itself.
