A return has come to us for a rather expensive ring ($1700). We always ship to the customer via Priority Mail with full insurance, and very securely packed. The item was returned by first class mail (took pictures and made a video) utterly loose in the box of the size of a soap pack, like a baby’s rattle—no cushioning or any protection. Thankfully, the item does not appear to be damaged, but the callous and disrespectful way it was returned cannot be ignored. eBay only provides First Class as an option for returns, with no instructions to the customer about care for the item that is being returned. This is unacceptable, and I am voicing my very valid grievance. I know full well that eBay will ignore my concern, but as an eBay seller with an impeccable reputation, I felt the need to say something.

Since you didn't receive the return, you don't have to issue a refund. The current policy here states:
Tracking is required to confirm the item has been returned to the seller. Signature confirmation is required for returned items with a total cost of $750 or more. If a seller chooses to offer the buyer an untracked return label and eBay is asked to step in and help, the buyer will not be required to provide proof of delivery or signature confirmation.

I understand your grievance and am sorry sellers have to go through this. At the end of the day, though, you're lucky... "Thankfully, the item does not appear to be damaged..."
Good luck in the future, too!

Make very sure that there is no damage. Being that you are a TRS seller, you have the option of issuing a partial refund if there is the slightest damage to your item.

I got a return once wrapped in a black plastic garbage bag. Despite being a TRS, full refund.
