Hi all.
Quick question regarding the discount that Ebay gives sellers. If I look up what shipping is using USPS I will see, for instance, $8.40 for an item over 16 oz but my cost would be $7.75 so if I wanted to put $7.75 as the fixed cost for shipping is that what the buyer would pay or do they pay the $8.40. I'm thinking Ebay would use the $8.40 to calculate my fees for shipping.
Thanks for any help/advice given

You can price it at any price you want. The FVF for shipping is 10%, and is based on what you charged your buyer.
For example, if you charge the buyer $7.75, then eBay will take 78 cents... leaving you with only $6.97... but you'd still have to pay $7.75. (Or, $8.40 = $7.56... but you'd still have to pay $7.75.)
Usually, using your example, I'd charge $10. ($10.00 = $9.00... I pay $7.75 and count $1.25 for packing and materials.)
But, like I said... you can price it at any price you want. Good luck!

Postage is priced by Zone, unless you are using the special Priority Mail flat rate envelopes and boxes.
If you enter a flat price for postage, that's what the buyer will be charged, whether it's $7.75, $8.40, or $50.
If you set up calculated shipping then eBay will figure the cost to ship from your ZIP Code to the buyer's ZIP Code, based on the weight and dimensions that you enter for your package, or on the flat-rate packaging that you choose. In your site preferences, you can choose whether the shipping calculator charges the buyer the retail price or the online (eBay) price.
The discount that eBay gives sellers is merely the regular USPS Commercial pricing, which you can also get from any other online postage seller including PayPal, endicia, stamps.com, etc. The only domestic postage advantage in using eBay is that Top Rated Sellers get a 3% discount on Priority Mail postage.
