Different Shipping Address

A seller made a purchase and wants me to ship it to a different address. In trying to edit the address information, a notice states that shipping to a different address will void my seller protections. Any insights, information, suggestions, etc. will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Re: Different Shipping Address

That is correct.

It is the buyer's responsibility to provide the correct shipping address during checkout.

It is the seller's responsibility to ship to that address only.

A common scam attempt is for an unrelated 3rd party to contact the seller, claim to be the buyer, & ask for shipping to a different address.

So .......... first, verify that the ID requesting the address change is the same ID that made the purchase.

If they are the same, explain to the buyer that you are required to ship to the address that was provided at the time of payment.

If they want it shipped to a different address, you would need to cancel the order, refunding the money.

Relist the item for the buyer to repurchase, providing the correct address.

Re: Different Shipping Address

On top of all the great advice given by kare-bareb; also know that there are scammers that email you to ship to a different address and they are NOT EVEN THE WINNER. Just trying to get you to ship them free stuff. Then you'll get to refund the 'REAL' buyer once they open a 'Not Received' return.

Yes this is true. Anytime you ship an item to the address that is not linked to the purchase, you are taking all the risk of having something go wrong. eBay will not back you up if things go south.

Re: Different Shipping Address

Yep, don’t do it! Tell them it’s against eBay policy and they will have to change their address through eBay.

Re: Different Shipping Address

Once again, thank you all for your posts! I did exactly as suggested and customer repurchased the item with the shipping address provided legitimately and through Ebay. Buyer was more than pleased with the care and time taken to get it right! Everybody won out  on this transaction.
