Hey guys! Haven't had a return in awhile that I had to pay for, and I noticed something odd when I accepted the return. I was charged a little over $5 for first class mail at 4oz. Wasn't sure what to think of it at first, but when I had to go to the local post office to pick it up, I deduced Signature confirmation had been added to the package. The package was not origianlly sent with Sig Confirmation, so I'm not really sure why it got added on, and more importantly why I had to pay for it. Is this something new? or something I just haven't encountered yet?

Yeah I know... So why did it get added on? Actually on the phone with eBay as I type this. They are boggled too...
Well, after over an hour on the phone with eBay and 3 Customer Service Reps... I have an answer. The policy department was finally able to assist with the answer of... A new Pilot Program. Apparently signature confirmation on returns is the next step we will be seeing as eBay does it's best to keep up with other ecommerce sites. The rep said he would forward an article if he could find one, but I'm not expecting it to happen. I was one of a lucky few who got chosen to pay a little extra so ebay could experiment on me...

Did you sign for the package? I don’t think signature confirmation was added. The post office doesn’t know what the actual cost billed to eBay will be. It’s a return service label so they work differently and eBay doesn’t pay the exact cost. Signature confirmation is $3.00 so I don’t see how a 4oz package could ship for $5.00 with signature confirmation

That package did not have Signature Confirmation.

Yep, ahd to sign for it and label said signature confirmation on it. Wasn't $5 exact it was over.

If it's a label from Ebay, I don't see how they could add to require a signature for it.
They might have paid for it themselves.

Nope, just looked it up and I was charged $5.21 as a "return shipping fee". Very perplexed.

What was the value of the item?

Under $750 does not require a signature.

Isn't it great to be an involuntary experimental subject?

I'd be happy to pay for return sig confirmation on an item of that value. That is a protection for you, as a seller.

Not really... Delivery confirmation on a return would be protection for the buyer not the seller. And that's not even the point. The point is eBay just added it without my knowledge, and I got charged for it.
