Damaged item sent USPS priority mail

I sent an item that sold mailing it USPS Priority Mail.  She received the item broken; it was packaged in bubble wrap.  USPS used to include $50 insurance with priority mail purchase.  The buyer sent me photos of the broken item.

It looks like now USPS only pays claims for damaged items that are sent priority EXPRESS.

How do I handle this?  I would like to make my buyer happy but I think USPS is responsible for the damaged item.  What do you do?

Re: Damaged item sent USPS priority mail

you are responsible you will have to refund if they have opened a case or eBay will do it for you.

As for USPS it is that they may want the item and packing for a claim. The buyer does not have to cooperate in such.

Where did you hear this? Priority express is $100 insurance and reg priority ship still covers $50 in insurance. I believe the only thing they are changing is the guarantee to be delivered in 2 or 3 days.

Re: Damaged item sent USPS priority mail

The form on the USPS website wants me to enter the amount of insurance on a Priority express shipment; I didn't use Priority Express I used Priority and didn't buy insurance as  I thought there was $50 insurance included free.  Am I missing something?

Re: Damaged item sent USPS priority mail

The on-line claim form wants me to enter the amount I paid for insurance for priority express which I didn't use and didn't pay for any insurance since I thought priority mail came with $50 insurance free.  Am I using the wrong form to claim for damaged item?  I was going to refund the buyer and then file a claim with USPS for the damaged item.....is this the right process?

Yes, take care of your buyer 1st, and get off that priority express shipping you had nothing to do with that.

Been a long time since I've done this but it wasn't that hard, downloaded a picture of a little broken finger, put my tracking number in, filled out form and received a check.

And yes you still get $50 included of insurance with priority mail.
