DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

In recent months I have bought many items from eBay so far all valuable items and 3 of them are missing. They arrived at my local USPS facility and were issued for delivery but they were not scanned on delivery. Tracking history showed "awaiting delivery scan". I went to USPS and asked what happened that the package is not delivered? The manager replied that the parcel was stolen from a box on the street from which deliverers collect parcels for delivery. I asked if this had been reported to the police and the manager said no, that I had to go to the USPS website and file an investigation there. So I did, but after a few days I got a message:

"

Thank you for contacting the United States Postal Service® and taking the time to share your concerns with us. Your inquiry has been processed and assigned to Service Request # 50117555.

Your inquiry has been forwarded to the appropriate management team for research and response. You can expect initial contact within one-business day.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and for your patience while we investigate this matter.

Regards,

USPS

"

and nothing after that message.

It's just that the USPS is not investigating what happened and my case is up in the air and will probably never be considered.

I wrote to eBay because the auction included an eBay money back guarantee but they also washed their hands of it. This protection is just a slogan - you won't get anything in this case. They want to earn 10% commissions but they don't want to take any responsibility.
People, think deeply if you're shipping packages via USPS - you may encounter a scenario that I've already gone through.

My theory is that the USPS is a franchise and the owners of these establishments hire people for low wages, so these people start stealing. Because how to explain that a package was stolen from a USPS mailbox and USPS did not report it to the police?
He did not report it because it is an internal matter, the parcels are lost in the possession of USPS, so if they reported it to the investigation, they would expose themselves to compensation, reporting to the police would be proof.

I don't want to bore you guys here, but it's time we all folded into one big company with shares for everyone and launched our sales service. Think there are over 135 million eBay users in the world, give $10 each and it will be a powerful company with over $1.3 billion in capital. and let the commission stand at 3% on everything.
You can choose one courier and agree a fixed shipping rate with them in exchange for their exclusive delivery.
Let's add a paid option that if someone sells something valuable or buys from a new member, he can use the option of a randomly selected notary in his area to be a witness when the parcel is delivered and confirm its contents.

Together, we can make eBay better for less money and more secure.

It's time to take matters into your own hands and not be addicted to companies that don't care about us and just want money without responsibility.

Don't ship via USPS or you will lose your money!!!!!!!

I am sorry your packages were lost. I don't understand why you would suggest that no one ever use USPS again just for one incident. That's like saying, don't ever fly because a plane has crashed. Nothing in life is guaranteed and the majority of all packages arrive with no issues. Also, doubtful that an employee is stealing your packages because they would have no way of knowing what is inside. I've ordered many high value items recently and they have all been delivered with no issues. Best of luck to you....

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

Just one question:  How does the "manager" know that your package was stolen from a box on the street? How would he know specifically that your package was in the box.  Even if every package that was in the box was stolen and the box was empty, how does he know yours was among them? What kind of a "box"? The big blue one like the one in front of the drugstore where I mail my bills? How could that be subject to thievery?

And isn't the USPS a Federal facility/agency so that theft from one of their boxes would be a Federal crime? I'm with you, why would they not report it to the local PD? Did they only need to report it to the Feds?

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

I've had basically the same thing happen to me with an item I ordered from Amazon. After waiting on  it for 6 weeks, tracking showed out for delivery. It was not delivered that day and the next day it still showed out for delivery. It said that forever. I contacted USPS and they told me to contact Amazon. So I did and they sent me another one that I had to wait 6 weeks on.

Some stranger came to my door back in April and handed me an envelope that the mail delivery person had left in his mailbox. It was my income tax refund check. He didn't even live close to me.  USPS is screwed up now for some reason.

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

You say don’t ship USPS. What service would you suggest we use then?
Sorry but just because you had a package come up missing doesn’t mean everyone should jump on your bandwagon and boycott USPS. Because that is what you are saying.
I having had a bad experience with the post office, I think in the nearly 20 years I’ve been both buyer and seller that 1 package I shipped went MIA.
So no, I will not stop USPS just because you say so.

FYI… USPS is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government it is not a franchise.

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

USPS actually has their own law enforcement agency which has jurisdiction -- US Postal Inspection Service. If you suspect mail fraud, stolen mail, etc. -- that's who you contact, not your local police station.

USPIS is a law enforcement agency like any of the other Federal ones. They are involved with drug interdiction, all kinds of crime -- probably the most high profile one in the past couple of years is their involvement in arresting Steve Bannon for that "charity" he set up to build a border wall. Donations accepted via checks in the mail -- boom, now USPIS is involved.

1. Does not make any sense. eBay would have forced the refund if there was no delivery or attempted delivery. What have you left out of this story @maxgood? Were there attempted delivery tracking scans?

2. If the manager at your local PO was uncooperative, you can go above their head and contact your local postmaster.

As another poster said upthread, if USPS is telling you items were stolen while in their possession then you report to the USPIS for investigation: https://www.uspis.gov/report

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

I have been using USPS for packages only and never one ever got lost in the mail. There is tracking on these packages if you go up to the counter and have a clerk scan the package you will be fine. I also use certified and registered mail per USPS and never had anything ever lost.

If there is a problem it is apparently where you live and not everywhere else. I have walked into my post office inquiring about something missing and it usually shows up a day or two later. I actually have a person in charge of my post office who helps me when there is a problem.

Most packages that are large are not in a box...they are delivered from a USPS truck from a post office. Only small items are in a mailbox(blue) being picked up by the post office or a mailman.

Depending on where you are living there might be a problem.

Not your job to pursue this beyond filing an INR for the missing item(s).

Were these items not covered by the eBay MBG?

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

I have shipped many tines with USPS and I have never lost a penny. There is no better way to ship than USPS. It is possible that the post office that you re using is inefficient. You should try using a different post office in another town.

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

I love USPS.  Since 1998, I have shipped over 10,000 packages and all of them except 2 arrived.  Two were "harpooned" but the buyers were going to open up the boxes anyway. As a buyer, I will NOT buy unless it's USPS.  I absolutely abhor UPS plus I have a po box.  You had bad luck or sellers that do not know how to pack.

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

I have shipped over 10,000 packages in the last 25 years with USPS. I have only lost one and this was prior to tracking.  It was a book, that I believe the buyer scammed me out of. I sell high-value items on eBay now, under another eBay ID. The average item is probably around $500 and has gone up to tens of thousands of dollars. With that track record, I rarely ship with any other delivery service.

That being said, I am also a retired Postmaster of 33 years. I have seen first-hand what and how people try to ship. It's like they want it to get damaged, etc. Yes, I know how to package my items and have many comments on my FB stating as much. I still do not understand why some sellers skimp on packaging using recycled boxes, and not securing them properly by using a little more packaging tape. A lot of people believe they can package an item up and simply hand it to the USPS and then it's their problem.  Not true. Sometimes these same people use dropoff boxes so a clerk can't actually refuse a package because it isn't packaged properly.

If anyone on eBay is having delivery issues or having their packages constantly damaged or lost, the first place to start is with you.  Because missing or damaged packages are not the norm for anyone selling here. And if you are having problems with a carrier, clerk, Postmaster or facility follow the procedures that the USPS set up for these issues. Open a trouble ticket online. State names, days, and times that you have talked to a USPS employee. It's business, your business, and not personal. Most Postal employees are extremely dedicated to serving their country and customers. Yet, like any business, they do have their problem children. Good luck!

Re: DO NOT SHIP BY USPS - NEVER - DO NOT SHIP BY USPS

Interesting. You do not have any negative feedback nor have you left any for a seller.  So I don't see any bad issues popping up.  I mean seriously, you made a lot of statements that don't ring factually true. I wouldn't even know where to begin. First, you attack the USPS then lead into attacking eBay. Possibly you just read a Bud Light article and wanted to start your own movement here. You do have the free will to ship by any delivery service in the United States. Telling everyone that they should do as you do, isn't realistic as we too have free will. Personally, I can recall receiving a box via UPS with shotgun pellets/holes in it.  That was when UPS was on strike in Chicago years ago. Good luck with the normally much higher shipping costs using UPS or FedEx.
