Just to vent a little. I read a few negative reviews about a seller I’ve used many times. “Shipping cost rip off, making profit on shipping”.
Well these really irk me because as a fellow seller, I know how much these items cost to ship and this seller is very fair.
Buyers.....shipping is NOT just the postage, there’s time (handling), packaging supplies and getting the packages to the shipper (if you don’t have a pickup service)
AND.....shipping cost is clearly marked on every listing. If you think it’s too high....DON’T BID.
Grow up!

Back in the day what you signed up for was more like a real "Membership" for the privilege to use ebay's site.
Fast forward to today, it's run more like a store on the street...letting any Tom, dick and harry in, even as a guest.
This creates a lot of new "members" who really don't understand what it means to be an "ebayer".

Often the ones that complain the most about shipping are the ones that know the least about it. There really are a lot of people that think if you need to ship a package cross country and it weighs a couple pounds that'll cost a couple bucks. Unfortunately not knowing what they're talking about doesn't keep people from talking.
I agree, if you don't like the shipping costs, or for that matter any other aspect of a listing then just don't bid/buy.

I totally agree. I have so many people asking about lowering shipping and I do not add one penny to the cost. I do NOT add on for bubble wrap, time, etc. but if someone else does, the shipping price is known before they buy. As ebay charges us FINAL VALUE FEE on cost, they should be happy for high shipping, they get more money. For them to allow us to be judged over the USPS etc. prices (and shipping time for that matter) is a disgrace. If you meet your ship by date that is all we sellers can control.
I sell for fun. I make my stuff sound worse that it is in descriptions. I do feedback as soon as I ship and I still notice I am getting star dings on description, ship times and of all things COMMUNICATION! I always answer questions as soon as I see them and often send notes to customers, usually if I have saved them a buck or two in shipping costs (I put down that if I can get some border-line weight item shipped 1st class I will do so and I refund the savings). Most customers, luckily I suppose, do not even leave feedback these days or I would be over 10K. Most of my FB is from early on. I just think people are getting used to Amazon and we are NOT Amazon. We do not get free shipping nor can we afford to offer it and of course, if someone does they are including it in the price and screwing people in far zones. I got out of free shipping after 1 year so really bad sales and virtually no combined sales as I had often had before.
Bottom line is we just cannot win on here. I am sorry I reopened my store after I just moved states. I think now the only way to be seen is to put Promotions on stuff you already pay a store and a other fees for. My sales have dropped like a lead balloon since they started that.

I would never leave a negative just because the shipping was high, but admit I often pass on sellers charging too much. Sometimes I wonder if sellers realize you can ship first class (up tp 15.999 oz) and don't have to use priority. I carry a large inventory of boxes including tons of the small boxes you can get free as a store owner. Sometimes I offer both the cheap first class option and priority, buyers 99% of the time choose the cheaper option.

I don't care what the shipping charge is - if the total price looks good, I will buy. It doesn't matter to me how the seller breaks it down in the listing between item price and S&H.

People who never ship things don't understand how much things are to ship. It is very frustrating. It is also dead wrong for ebay to charge fees on shipping.

Good thing it's just a vent. I was hoping you weren't really asking for a solution to the problem of thousands of sellers on eBay who are willing to sell for negative profit.

I agree if you can see the total price before the item is sniped at the end.
I buy vintage Hot Wheel cars in auction format and the shipping prices range anywhere from $2.66 - $9.85 for a single car. Many sellers charge over $6 for an item that is pretty much indestructible and weighs around 1.5 ounces. I charge around $3.50 and make enough to cover fees.

I had someone recently complain about the high cost of shipping his very large Fisher Price Garage from NY to Seattle Wash.
Problem was that he only complained about it after he received his box and the exact postage cost that he paid was printed right on the label.
So I asked him how did you not notice the high shipping cost at the time you placed your bid??.......he blamed ebay who he said it showed a much lower calculated price.
So I asked him how did you not notice the high shipping cost at checkout, you could've simply asked me to cancel the transaction.......nothing........
Point is, this guy was clearly trying to use the high cost of shipping as leverage to get a partial refund......I reported him to ebay and haven't heard from him since.
I also once got a neutral from a lady 5 years ago who said her exact shipping was too high......she's probably dead now from sticker shock as rates have gone up quite a bit in 5 years.

I disagree. The only reason the FVF was charged on shipping is ebay saw an opportunity to make money.
To this day I see listings with outrageous shipping costs yet ebay does nothing but take their cut.
If ebay wanted to really solve the issue of "fee avoiders" there were certainly much better ways to go about it.

Drive-by noobs like that are one of the reasons why we can't have nice things....well that and ebay gives each and everyone of these noobs a gun and lets them fire at will

Before Ebay charged fees on shipping, many sellers were charging 99 cents for the item and $30 for shipping. Sellers were ripping off Ebay on most of the sales. They really didn't have a choice on that, but to be fair, if a seller uses the calculator, they should not charge fees on the calculated shipping. Now it is the sellers who are being ripped off by Ebay.
