I have up for sale a old 1980 Apple III Computer Monitor. Someone from Hong Kong wants to buy it; however EIS won't ship it - they tell me I have to handle the shipping myself. But, the more I read about this, the more it sounds like even I am not ALLOWED to ship electronics - even vintage - to Hong Kong. Even if it is possible, sounds like I need some kind of export license or something, plus custom forms, etc. If EIS won't ship it, maybe I can't either.
Anyone know is this is even possible? Starting to sound like a big hassle to me. Thx.

I would just sell it in the US only. Could be an issue with the lead glass in the picture tube or just the import of vintage computer monitors in general that have an issue with. You don't want to run into issues with their customs over it.

An Apple III monitor is great find, and definitely a nice item to sell, but be careful.
The cost to ship a CRT monitor outside the USA will cost a fortune, on top of the 10% fee eBay will charge you on the cost to ship it, plus the high cost of all the packaging material needed to send it safely. All of that might exceed the value of the Apple III monitor (even though it is very rare and expensive). If it gets lost in customs, you will be responsible for the enormous shipping cost and be out the expensive item, and if customs rejects it and sends it back to you, you will be charged for the return shipping too in addition to being out the initial shipping. Just way too much liability versus reward in this case.
Sell it domestically only. Or, even try selling it local pickup only, even domestic shipping will be pretty expensive on a CRT, and people will travel to pick up such a rare item. If you are going to sell/ship it anywhere, you might want to pay a professional packing service like the Fedex or UPS stores to pack the CRT. They are extremely difficult to pack safely, and they would be 100% liable for any breakage (which happens often with CRTs.)
I sold an Apple II on eBay, with the monitor, to someone in Japan in 1999. Only cost $78 to send it sea mail back then. Today, it would probably run $500+. I miss sea mail...

A $120 fairly delicate crt monitor? Don't waste your time with complicated shipping.
