Did you mean:

Combined shipping weights are not adding up and the customer is being undercharged.

Here's what happened. I recently had 2 shirts for sale. Each weighed 9 ounces. One person bought both shirts. The weight SHOULD  have been 1-2 pounds. But it stayed at 9 ounces and so the buyer paid for First Class. I ended up sending one shirt via EBAY and another using Paypal shipping and it all worked out. But, what the hell!!!! Did I do something wrong? Is there a new setting that I don't know about? And now I have some books for sale and a potential buyer is asking about combined shipping!!    Help.   Thanks.

Did the buyer not pay for First Class on each order? That's how you had them listed, anyway...

In shipping preferences do you have a combined shipping rule to combine all weights?

https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

On each listing do you have the box checked off to combine shipping discounts on that particular shipping rule?

Re: Combined shipping weights are not adding up and the customer is being undercharged.

The buyer did pay the combined payment for two combined, 9 ounce items. BUT if I had shipped them both in the same package the weight would have been 9 ounces + 9 ounces= 1 pound 2 ounces and therefore shipping would have been more then the two FIRST CLASS items he paid for. And as we all know once you print out one label from EBAY you have to go somewhere else to print out the second. So did EBAY's algorithm screw up or is there a setting that (after 24 years of doing this) I don't know about? Thanks!

Re: Combined shipping weights are not adding up and the customer is being undercharged.

I do have the box checked "Allow buyers to send one combined payment for all items purchased" but I do not see anything about adding weights together. . In this case EBAY failed to add the two, 9 ounce weights together. So what I received was one payment for two first class postages. If I had combined the two items the weight was such and location of the buyer that I would have had to pay an extra $2.00 for parcel select. And sort of the same thing just happened when a guy bought two books but in reverse!! EBAY sent him an "invoice" and said he had to pay $8.45 for media mail for the two books. They added the two separate shipping costs together instead of combining the two weights and then coming up with the media mail rate. The actual media mail rate for the two books ended up being around 4.50!!

Re: Combined shipping weights are not adding up and the customer is being undercharged.

Combined Flat Shipping does not combine weights, it combines costs, if option is set to "Do Not Offer".

Combined Calculated Shipping add weights, if the option is set to "Combine all item weights".

Re: Combined shipping weights are not adding up and the customer is being undercharged.

The cost of 2 packages at 9 ounces each first class would meet or exceed the cost of priority, depending on the location.  It has to be a wrong box check as @rfmtm said.

@osumb

In the link I gave you earlier click go to calculated shipping rule and click on 'edit'. Change it to 'combine all weights'. Then go to sellers hub,  choose the listings that you want to apply that rule to click on edit/edit selected.  In bulk edit go to edit fields and click on shipping discounts domestic.  You should be able to apply the shipping rule to the listings you have checked off.

Disclaimer -I don't use usps but I'm assuming that if the weights are more than 1 lb than it will change the service from first class to Priority.  Is someone able to confirm or deny that?
