Claim amount for lost mail

Hi. My package got lost by USPS. I filed a claim and uploaded proof of what the buyer paid. The claim was approved. Now I pay that money to the buyer. Package was shipped ground advantage. My question is, did I just loose my items and get no reimbursement from USPS?  Is there something I should have done or can do differently?

This is either one of three scenarios....

(A) You were made whole by the original payment you received when you sold it.

The buyer was made whole by the USPS  insurance claim.

(B) You were made whole by the USPS settlement claim paid to you.

Your buyer was made whole by your refund of the original sale.

(C) The buyer was made whole by your refund of the original sale

You sent the USPS settlement to the buyer for some reason and you are out the item and the payment.

Except for (C), which I hope you did not consider, it's all good.....

When you filed the claim for lost mail, who did you ask that the payout go to?

It sounds like you filed the claim then refunded the buyer. So you should have requested that the payment from USPS be sent to you.

You refund the buyer from your funds.

The USPS has always issued me a check in the mail for the loss value plus shipping.

You lost the value you paid for the item, but since the insurance will reimburse the buyer the the cost and shipping, that willl not come out of your pocket.

So you refunded the buyer AND you opened an insurance case in their name?

USPS is sending me a check but only for what the buyer paid me including shipping. I’m not getting any compensation. Is this correct?

The buyer is made whole, price of item and shipping.

You, the seller, are out the item. If, for some reason the item shows up later and is delivered, you can be required to pay back the USPS.

The part in red is correct.

I don't understand what you mean by "I’m not getting any compensation." You don't get extra for your inconvenience.

It sounds like it worked as posted by @monica-sells in post 5 .  (B) would make both you and the buyer whole. (Ebay credited the portion of the FVF when you refunded the buyer. They retained the $.40 fee.)
