Hi there,
I sold something, printed the label for USPS First Class package and shipped in a plain old brown box. The sale is here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/163199528136?ssPageName=STRK:MESDIX:IT
The shipping paid was the correct cost as the item weighs less than a pound. The label reflected the amount paid for USPS First Class.
I received a message today saying that I owe more for shipping because I used the Priority Mail service instead of the First Class service....so I was billed over $11 on my Paypal.
Why did this happen? Neither my box nor my label were for Priority Mail so I'm not sure how this could have been confused. All I know is I want my $11 and change back. LOL. Thanks.

Is it possible that the package weighed more than a pound?

Even that wouldn't account for it; the maximum retail postage cost for a 2-pound package (to Zone 😎 is $12.90, and the minimum online postage for a FC pckage is $2.66, so that would leave $10.24 as postage due, not "over $11."
For the postage due to be over $11, the package weight would have to be over 2 pounds.
Our friends at Amazon list the shipping weight for this item at 1.71 pounds.

Hmmm...I suppose it is possible. I guess I have to be more careful a out my estimations. I was charged $11.24 to be exact, in addition to the $5ish the buyer paid. Also why would it be Priority Mail if I didn’t use that service?

I guess so. Do you think that would result in an additional $11.24?

Why are you estimating the weight?

The maximum weight for First Class is 15.999 ounces, so if the package is heavier than that, you'd be charged for Priority Mail.
What do you mean by "estimations"? Did you not actually weigh the package?

Estimating the weight is not a wise thing to do. Go to the Post Office or purchase an inexpensive scale to weigh your items.

Once boxed up I can definitely see that chia pet being over 2 pounds.

You need to either buy a scale, or start buying your postage at the post office. Otherwise this will continue to happen.
You can get a scale for about what this lesson cost you.

On August 1, 2017 eBay announced the USPS Automated Package Verification (APV) policy for those people that underpaid for postage - here is a link https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/USPS-Begins-Automated-Package-Verification-Changing-Unde...
Sounds like the APV is working. It is never a good idea to "guesstimate" weights, a couple of ounces can move you to the next highest shipping service - sounds like this is what happened to you. Don't think you will ever receive a refund 'cause you "short sheeted" the USPS by buying a first class and should have paid for priority sevice and got busted.
We use a scale to weigh our packaged/ready to ship orders unless it is a priority flat or regional rate shipment and add an extra ounce or two as I'm certain my $10 digital scale is not always going to agree with the big bucks USPS scales and their scales count.

file a claim in paypal on the shipping charge for duplicate charge. the PO will NOT respond to the claim and you will get your money back. I have already done this after being charged extra.

that would be wrong IMO. This is a case where the OP should be paying the additional postage. Based on what I looked up just the chia pet weighs over 1 pounds. This did not qualify for first class mail and it being over 2 pounds seems very likely once packaged. Op needs to quit guessing weight.
