Chargeback question with Managed Pay

I sold an item Last month and printed the label on Ebay shipping it FedEx.  It was shipped on August 9th, going from Illinois to Texas.  Weight was 65 lbs and and height 42" x 32".  The package went to Texas, then went to California, then back to Texas before trying to be delivered.  It was UNDERLIVERABLE because the Buyer gave an invalid address.  FedEx tried to deliver twice & marked it returned to shipper.  As soon as I saw it was being returned, I contacted the buyer.  He said he gave a wrong address.  The package came back to Illinois, got to within 50 miles of me, and turned around and went back to Texas.  This package has been on the road 30 days now.  FedEx tried to deliver it again today to the wrong address.  Fedex nor Ebay will change the address to the correct address, & I am sure, it will be sent back to Illinois once again.  I will charged a return fee for the shipping, plus a label fee for changing the label to my address for a return.  Buyer paid through Paypal, and address he has on the transaction is the wrong address where FedEx is trying to deliver.  Will Ebay stand behind a chargeback if the Buyer tells Paypal that he didn't receive his item?  I am going to be out a lot of shipping costs if Ebay doesn't stand behind a charge back.  I know if he opens a case about not receiving item he may lose, but I don't know if Ebay stands behind a chargeback when the buyer gave an invalid address and has stated so many times.  I have been selling on Ebay for 19 years and have never had a problem like this.

Re: Chargeback question with Managed Pay

You. Need to contact Fed Ex and get this package intercepted with a return to you since the buyer has an invalid address. Call 1-800-Go-FedeX. Give te tracking number in the first automated prompt, then continue along until you can request customer Service. They can direct you to a person. Pay them to have it recalled and sent back to you. Chargeback should not happen, you cannot win one with this undeliverable package. Get the package back and then refund the customer.

Actually once the intercept is done and you know they will be sending it back you can refund then.

Re: Chargeback question with Managed Pay

I am sorry, but evidently you haven't run into this problem.  FedEx WILL NOT let a label be changed under any circumstances if the label is printed on Ebay.  They also will not let the item be held for pickup if the label was printed on Ebay.  I was told this Numerous times by FedEx.  I cannot begin to tell you how many times in the last 30 days I have talked to FedEx and Ebay.  I also don't understand why it went back to Texas again.  Just this morning they tried to deliver it again to the wrong address.  Ebay also says, they will not change an address once it has been shipped.  As I said - 19 years of selling, I have never ran into this problem but also have not been under managed pay with this kind of problem.  The shipping charges are going to be enormous and I do not think I should be out anything beings I did everything possible to fix the problem  after the buyer told me it was an invalid address.

I really thought that in a situation like this they could do intercept. If the darn thing cant get delivered it should be coming back to you anyway correct?

Re: Chargeback question with Managed Pay

Every time i get a rep from Fed Ex on the phone they can fairly well pinpoint where the package is at the moment. Does it look like it is being sent back to you as of today?

Re: Chargeback question with Managed Pay

There is several problems here.  The original shipping fee, the doubled shipping fee FedEx charges to get it back, the Return Label fee, and then we add the ebay Seller fees, sales tax, etc.  There is not going to be a lot to give the buyer back.  I tried everything I could do to get it to him the first time, and I can't begin to tell you how much time and energy I have spent trying to get it to him this second time.  If he tells Paypal - he didn't receive the item - he is right, but who is going to be out all of the shipping and fees?

Re: Chargeback question with Managed Pay

No, It does not look like it is being sent back to me today.  I would say, they may try again tomorrow before sending it back.  I question whether they know where to send it back to as why wasn't it sent to me when it was within 50 miles over a week ago.  I filed a missing package before I knew it was on the way to Texas again when it sat here in Illinois and have heard nothing.  There isn't any intercepting a package when using an Ebay FedEx label.  All Managed Pay has told me is that if he opens a case WITH EBAY - he will lose.  But that is not going to say that they will stand behind me if he opens a case that he did not receive his item - because he hasn't yet and neither have I.  I don't want to be out all the shipping and fee costs.  The real kicker is - I had the item listed for months PICKUP ONLY - and I let this guy talk me into shipping it.

Re: Chargeback question with Managed Pay

Gosh, I am so sorry for you over this. I hope you will recover from this someway, and remember, if all goes south, write this loss off on your taxes this year. It’s not the best solution but it can help some at the end of the year.
