Case closed with a refund to the buyer

Hello Everyone, 

recently a buyer opened a item not described return. I accepted the return and sent 20$ to his PayPal for him to send back the item. He uploaded the tracking number 

R0178701729RU

i never received the return and I tried to track the item and it keeps coming back as invalid.

today The buyer opened a case and the decision was in his favor saying the return shows it’s been successfuly delivered to your return address. I’ve tracked the tracking number with 10 different websites(you all can check) and it states invalid. What should I do in this situation? Any tips?

I cannot find it either.

Can you appeal?

A hypothetical question for you hafoster; if  a package is delivered to the same zip code, same town, but not the sellers address, would that still close the case as delivered based on the zip code?

Yes because the zip code is all that eBay and PayPal can see on the tracking. They don’t see the delivery address.

It's on USPS.com.

There's a typo though. The second character should be a letter "O" not a zero "0" .

The tracking number in the original post was invalid because it had a typo in it.

Oh the ebay staff saw the tracking as is and didn't aware the typo and they couldn't based on the wrong one.

eBay approved the return becuase they were able to see the delivery confirmation, so the return case must have had the correct tracking number.

OP must have made the mistake when they tried to track it.
