Can I simply stick my first class label from eBay on a USPS flat rate box?

Hey everyone,

I sold a video game and listed shipping as USPS First-Class Package.  However, from USPS I got this Priority Mail Flat Rate Small Box (link below). Of course, I can now print my USPS FIRST-CLASS PKG label through eBay. Can I simply slap this label on my flat rate box? Or does it not work that way?

Thank you!

No... gotta pay Priority (Flat Rate) prices to use a USPS Flat Rate box.

Well, you can just slap it on there, but you will likely get a "charge back" for the PFR box rate, or the buyer will get a postage due, or your PO might return it to you.

It does not work that way.

If you use a Priority box, you have to pay the appropriate Priority postage cost.  If you want to ship your item as a First Class package, you have to provide a different box.

At my local post office this morning, the senior counter clerk displayed a wonderful example of the sneaky holiday spirit which seems to be running rampant this year, what with the increase in USPS rates in October, and the scheduled increase again in January 2023:  In the overnight bin, some genius had attempted to ship out a HUGE & HEAVY cardboard box, with a computer-generated USPS First Class Package label slapped on it.  As you might guess, the box weighs w-a-a-a-y beyond 15.99 ounces, and the cubic dimensions were w-a-a-a-y up there as well.  The USPS counter clerk wrote the correct price on the top of the box (over $47.00!!!), which will now be shipped back to the conniving customer.

Nothing says "Happy Holidays" so much as mail fraud. . ..

No.  You would be charged the flat rate price.   All those free boxes from USPS can only be used for their intended purpose.  That even applies to already used ones.
