Calculated Shipping Help ?

I think I need some help.   When I am setting up an item for sale and choose calculated shipping,  I do a preview of the item and under shipping it shows "calculate".   But when I actually list the item it fills in a dollar amount which I believe is based on my local zip code.  This has resulted in a couple of sales where the buyer was from much further away and yet they only paid that lower price for shipping and I had to cover the difference.  Am I doing something wrong or is there a glitch ??  Any help greatly appreciated.  Still kind of new to this..

Re: Calculated Shipping Help ?

The calculator automatically calculates and charges the postage cost from your ZIP Code to the ZIP Code of any member who looks at your listing. When you look at your own listing, you see the postage cost to ship to a buyer in your own ZIP Code.

If you send the buyer an invoice which is based on the postage cost that you see, then that locks in the lower postage cost. If you are sending invoices, that's the underlying problem and you should discontinue.

Re: Calculated Shipping Help ?

Thanks so much.   I am not sending as you described.   Could I solve my problem if I actually send an invoice but calculate the correct amount based on the buyers zip ??   I'm a little worried in that I have a pretty heavy item that I currently have listed and if someone buys it from across the country but only pays the lower amount,  I could get stuck covering quite a bit.   Again.. Thanks for the help and forgive my lack of knowledge on this.

No, because a buyer can change their address as part of the payment process, so any invoice would potentially freeze the shipping cost at a price that's too low.

I just checked a few of your listings and the USPS postage  calculator seems to be working correctly.  It might help if you provide specific details about a package that you had this problem with, including package weight and dimensions, service used (e.g., Priority Mail?), both ZIP Codes, and both exact prices.
