Good Afternoon Ebay Community,
I sell used washer and dryer parts on Ebay as a side hustle. I enjoy being able to do this on Ebay and having my own little business. When I list these parts I ensure they work by testing them and recording pictures/videos of them working before I list them on Ebay to prove that the parts do in fact work! In addition I photograph the item right before I package it to be shipped out.
One of the drawbacks to selling on Ebay is that they buyer sometimes is not 100% aware and/or skilled enough on how to install a part on a washer and dryer. Another issue is that they are not fully aware of the issue with their washer or dryer and end up purchasing the wrong part.
These mistakes will cause the part that they purchased from me not to work because they connect it to a part that does not work on there washer that they are unaware of. For example, a buyer thinking the control board is faulty, buys a control board from me thinking it will fix the washer. When in reality they have faulty wires in the appliance that cause the control board not to function properly.
In situations like these, the buyer immediately requests a refund and states that the item does not work. When asking for an explanation of what is wrong with the part they refuse to answer or send an image of the part not working and insist that I refund the purchase. So in other words they refuse to provide proof of a defect.
Is there a way to fight this? I would be happy to refund the purchase and get the money back to the buyer, but if they refuse to explain or even send a picture of the item it becomes my word against they buyer's word. Ebay immediately sides with the buyer despite they buyer showing no proof of defect and not responding to messages. This becomes frustrating because I feel like I am wasting time and resources selling to certain buyers that don't have a strong knowledge of what they are doing and what they are buying

I'm one of the oddballs who doesn't require photos, etc., since eBay will find with the buyer anyway. It's frustrating and a waste of my time to ask for (and wait for) such. I just approve the Return request and refund when the item gets back to me. I generally find that if an item sells once, it will again.
Hang in there!

Sorry, but no, there isn't. Buyers are not required to provide any proof of a defect or that the item doesn't match the description. Sellers cannot require that the buyer provide proof.
The only thing the seller can do is to report the buyer if they misuse the eBay Money Back Guarantee. eBay will take action if they find that a buyer has done this too often, they will make the buyer ineligible for MBG claims after that. eBay will also take action if a seller reports too many buyers, so it's not recommended to abuse the reporting process either. But you should file if you get a return back and find that it is functioning correctly and is as described.
