Buyer wants to pay more for faster shipping (that I offer), but ebay won’t let them.

A buyer is asking to pay extra for faster shipping. I already offer FC, Priority, and express in the listing’s shipping section. But the geniuses at ebay decided the buyer doesn’t need those other two services and is only showing the buyer the first class.

Any ideas on the best way how to help this guy? The only two methods I can think of seem troublesome. 1) have him buy with first class, then send me his email address so I can request the price difference in PayPal (since I am in MP, I can’t find his email anymore... I got pushed into a brand new invoice system that doesn’t show buyer email anymore on packing slips), or 2) change the price of the specific item he wants and hope he buys it (but it may alienate other buyers wanting to purchase my multi-quantity item during the time I’m waiting).

Suggestions?

Why not just create a one off listing specifically for hik?

just hit sell similar item, and change the shipping to just what he wants.

Won't that violate duplicate listing policy?

I agree, buyers are not confused by more than 2 shipping options, they're not that stupid.

What is wrong with #1?  Once you are in a transaction it is no longer "illegal" to exchange contact information, like email addresses.

Or as others have suggested, cancel the order and relist it with only the Expedited shipping shown.  Violation of duplicate listing policy?  Seriously?  First they gotta catch you at it and who is to say you don't have TWO of  the same thing to sell?

But I mean, really, so what if eBay catches you in a "violation" for exchanging emails or duplicate listings.  Just use some charm with CS to get that rectified.  After all what is the worse they can do to you? 😂

Let us know how this plays out. 👍

I've done this a few times before, it doesn't always go smoothly. I don't like being in a position where I have to wait for a buyer to act if I can help it. Especially when I can get dinged with handling time. I'd get issues ranging from buyer taking days to communicate back, claiming to not see the invoice in their email, to never communicating back at all.

Ok, I see your point and that makes sense.  But isn't this one different?  Buyer has requested the expedited shipping so it is in their interest to respond or not.

What is wrong with a separate listing with just the higher cost?  Wasn't clear if the buyer bought item or was just asking.

As far as the "issue" as to why eBay does this?  Weekly chat?  Social Media contact?   I'm sure others would be interested to hear anything you learn from such endeavors.

Did the buyer add the item to the cart and then look at the cart? They might actually have to click on checkout first but they should see all of the choices that you listed in checkout. When I use a Montana address I see 3 options. In my case I had to go to checkout before I could see them because I had to change to a US address but some buyers may see the different options when they look at the cart.

Someone told me that this isn't always the case but its worth a try.

eMail is still there but you must must know how to get to it.

Go to Print Invoice for Own Records

While on this page click on "Edit invoice and address label template".

On the next page make sure you have "Add buyers email address to invoice" checked.

You will get the buyers actual eMail and not the computer generated eMail.

If the box is not checked then you get the computer generated eMail.

I don’t know. I didn’t ask any further as to exactly how or where they only see one (standard) shipping service. I just took their word for it as I know this ebay intended functionality exists. Unfortunately by now the window has passed to potentially have the buyer receive the item on time using Priority Mail. They weren’t going to opt for express mail because of the high cost.

@stephenmorganNope, sorry. I know all about that method and used it well up until about 2 weeks ago.

Not many people know this yet as ebay seems to LOOOOOVE to opt me into junk on as part of their first wave... but as stated in my OP they put me into a totally new crummy invoicing system. And they fixed the issue with displaying the buyer's email. I haven't got around to writing a new thread about it yet, but the new invoices and packing slips are just as bad as this board re-design. I've complained to ebay about this and sadly they are unable to opt me back out into the old invoice format. Here's some screenshots to show I'm not talking crazy.

I hate that they keep making these changes, after changes, after changes.

There is not exactly a printed manual to tell you how to do everything.  Trying to read instructions on line is a pain because you are constantly referred to another link and within that link there is another link and then another link.  Then there is other instructions that are just not provided and you only learn accidently or from other users.

When you say "And they fixed the issue with displaying the buyer's email." what do you mean?  Do you mean they have taken away the ability to view they buyers email?

I would never say I would quit using eBay because of changes.  However the constant changes could prevent me from being able to use eBay.  I have given up before because I could not keep up with the changes.

Yes. It's clear that ebay doesn't want us to get a hold of buyer's personal emails. Hence that long gibberish @ebay.com email they assign to buyers. I know now why ebay never bothered to remove the buyer's personal email in those (what I now call old) invoice/packing slip sections... because they were completely overhauling that section where the finished product doesn't include the email. That product is what you see in my screenshots.
