Buyer wants a refund but doesn't want to return item

I have a buyer who messaged me saying that they did not want the item anymore.I told the buyer to send a return request but said he did and got a charge in the return that he does not want to pay because it is too expensive. He proposed me that I give him the refund without the item returned for positive feedback. I didn't get notified for the return request he said he did and I'm starting to get a little suspicious about the buyer. Should I refund anyways? and if so , how do I make the refund?

Dear buyer,

We are sorry you have decided you no longer want the item, unfortunately we do not offer returns on our items.  We do not trade our items for positive feedback since eBay frowns on this and would consider this feedback manipulation on our part and feedback extortion on your part.

Thanks again,

Happy seller.

No, you should not refund w/o the buyer returning the item(s).  And this: "He proposed me that I give him the refund without the item returned for positive feedback."  You should also report the buyer too for this statement.

Do not refund unless he/she returns item(s)

For heaven's sake. Why don't the tiny tiny portion of buyer's like this just ask if we will give it to them free to start with to avoid problems.

Incredible.

No. No refund without a returned item. How long has the buyer had the item? What is it?

Did that idiot message come through eBay? If yes, report it. If not, delete and ignore since an email not coming through eBay messages is evidence of nothing.

And don't got the the "we do not take returns" route. You know that is not how this site works.

Keep us updated.

Thanks for the feedback. I would have gotten in a hot mess if I had not known this.

Actually a "No returns" route is ideal for this particular situation.  The buyer has already admitted that there is nothing wrong with the item which means that if the OP did actually have a no returns policy and the buyer does actually open a SNAD, the OP can get it shut down and not have to accept the return at all.

Here is a thread that is a must read for every seller here on eBay.  It is a VERY long read, but pay particular attention to the statements made by the eBay representative.  NOPE, a No Returns policy is PERFECT under the circumstances:

Nope, a no returns policy is not inforcible. You have to take a return but do not necessarily have to pay return postage.

There is no such thing as no returns UNLESS the seller just wants to give all the money back to the buyer and have the buyer keep the item.

As in please buy my stuff so you can have it free.

@pargran3

You are mistaken, you really need to read the thread before you make dogmatic statements like this.  As I said, pay particular attention to the comments made by the eBay representative as he confirms EXACTLY what I'm saying.

In this particular instance where the buyer admits there is nothing wrong with the widget, eBay will only force the seller to follow their own returns policy.  In the case of a no returns policy, eBay will not force a return.  If the OP had a returns policy, they would force a return.

Right. Sorry.

If the buyer just says it is my fault. that happens.
