I have a buyer that bought a pack of Epson ink toners off me, it was four cartridges for $449.99, one blue, yellow, black, magenta, a set.
Buyer receives item, then does a return request 3 WEEKS later using "Doesn't fit" as an excuse, and wrote he bought the wrong one, and will return in new condition.
I received the item today, they felt kind of light, so I opened the box. The buyer used all four ink cartridges, they are all empty now, the holes in the cartridges where the ink comes out are all pierced. Not only that, the buyer got some plastic and a heat gun, and attempted to reseal each cartridge. They did a bad job about it, there's holes in the plastic they used, and rips and even hair and particles under the plastic clearly visible.
I contacted eBay, ebay told me they opened a case.
I received a SR# message basically stating that I offer a partial refund and to work it out with the buyer because ebay doesn't know what condition the item was returned in. WHAT!?!?!
I called ebay again, the rep told me to upload photos to upload document. I did so, then received another SR# message, this time telling me to contact the buyer and he may have returned the wrong item.
Contacted buyer, buyer keeps stating it was like that and he did not opened it or used it. and says it was returned sealed as my pictures Now show. uh no, you tried to scam me and resealed it using your plastic. Its not even close to the baggie it was shipped in when you bought it!
What can I do?! it seems way too easy to scam one ebay now if this is the case. I lose $449.99 plus shipping and the buyer uses all the ink and gets his money back?
No point in reporting to police, they never care.
I do over 900+ sales in 90 days and eBay basically says oh well, refund them, we don't know how you got it.
It's ridiculous. The calls end up overseas and they were very very nice but in the end, it was very useless.

What can you do? I can tell you but it does not sound like what you want to hear.
If you are willing to do some work, you might get the case reversed by eBay. BUT it sounds like you have already decided that there is no point as they never care. So decide - you want to try or just post? 🤔🙂
You could consider a variation on the following, if this happens in the future:

"doesn't fit" is a remorse reason.
Why didn't you decline the return?

How did this turn out?
