Buyer has returned the wrong item and confirmed in an e-mail that they want to cancel the return request. I believe they are not sure how to do this from their end. As the seller can I action this?

Send these instructions to your buyer:
It's important to make sure you're certain you want to cancel a request, as you won't be able to re-open a case once it's been closed.

No, the seller cannot. The buyer has to go into their return request and cancel it.
I agree with sunnnysouth1 ... send your buyer instructions on how to cancel the return request.

Are you currently in the 2 business days to refund your buyer? As soon as the return is delivered back to the seller, the link to close the return request DISAPPEARS. Your buyer does not have that option anymore, and now sees:
Home > My eBay > The item was delivered
The item was delivered
Good grief, the item was delivered back to the seller
You should receive the refund by May 28, 2019. Everything looks fine, but if there's a problem, come back to this page on May 29, 2019 and you will be able to ask us to step in and help.
