BEWARE! eBay return policy is extremely unfair to sellers!

Long story short I sold a used hubcap for $20 on ebay. The buyer claimed it was damaged and was able to start a return. The damage was definitely not hidden in my item description, I had photos and explained the damage. It was an 11 year hub cap that was used in a northern climate, of course it's not going to be prefect. I believe it was just buyer remorse. Anyway, I was basically forced by ebay through their return process to send the buyer return shipping and give a full refund including original shipping cost!

There is no way to argue the buyers claims in this return process, you are simply forced to do what they say or else. In addition, every time I talked to an agent I was given different information.

Final, ebay took it upon themselves to issue the buyer a refund before I had even received the item to inspect it!!!!

I have never experienced such an unfair unjust process!!!! That was horrible and I will never use ebay again.

I have always had luck with ebay as a seller until the last 2 cases, opened within a week. One was a complaint that i gave the person free items and because it wasnt sealed, they were awarded a refund. It was free bonus items!! The next was person bought one thing as advertised but wanted a box so ebay awarded them a return too! ebay has greatly changed towards its buyers.

As a community of sellers we also play a part in
Ebay's continued success.
This is part of the problem that I'd like to see change.

I will contact them via @eBay in Twitter and share it, you should connect too.

For seems like months, there's a large button on every item I've bought
that says "Return This Item" when it could easily be moved under "more items"
in a less suggestive way.
Most buyers will act quickly if unhappy.

If not, why keep reminding them
to
"RETURN THIS ITEM"
?

Sorry this happened to you as it has to all of us old timer sellers. We see what has progressed on Ebay to the detriment of sellers. Don't even call Ebay as soon as you do you receive a defect. They have told me that it is the seller's responsibility to solve a problem as they are too busy to help. It it is also very common now for buyers to file NAD because Ebay has made it very clear to buyers that this is the way to get your return postage paid for as well as their total costs returned. There is no respect for sellers at all. Just pass it off as crazy, eat the costs, have a BIG drinking and say a few choice words to yourself. Sorry but it will happy again.

BEWARE! eBay return policy is extremely unfair to sellers!

I had a nightmare with eBay's return policy also.

I sent a working camera to the buyer.

Thirty-two (32) days after the sale the buyer contacted me about a problem with the camera. The buyer had had the camera for in his possession for 21 days.

In his first email to me, the buyer stated that the camera was working when he received it.

After using the camera it broke.

I researched the error reported by the buyer. The first search result from Google was from Sony. The most common cause of the error message from Sony’s help states:

“The error message Turn power off then on or Turn the power off and on again appears on the screen if the camera detects a malfunction, such as when forcing the lens or if a foreign object is trapped in the lens mechanism. For interchangeable lens cameras, the message appears for SteadyShot™ function or shutter problem related issues.” (https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00032723)

When the camera was returned to me, the camera clearly has a crack above the lens mount. This is consistent with forcing a lens or there being a foreign object trapped in the lens mechanism when mounting a lens.

Additionally, now the camera will not turn on. I have tried several batteries known to be good. There are missing items from the original sale (camera strap, charging cord).

And, the buyer did not return all of the items in the original package. The charging cord was missing and the camera strap was missing.

I was told by eBay customer service that I would have an opportunity to upload photos and dispute the return, but that was not the case. I was misled into believing that I would have an opportunity to state my case and possibly get my money back. That is not the case.

I have been ripped off by the buyer and eBay has done nothing but help him rip me off. I am now out $450, plus $41+ selling feels, plus shipping; I have basically lent my camera to the buyer for month, he broke it and now eBay has refunded his money. There are no protections for a seller. (photos include listing photo and photos to the returned item. NEVER SELL ON EBAY.

Nope. You will not win a SNAD 99.9% of the time....not with videos or pictures or written testimony from Abe Lincoln.

ebay gives you the false illusion that you have the choice to fight...but it's the equivalent of choosing to get punched in the face or kicked in the business.

BEWARE! eBay return policy is extremely unfair to sellers!

I am right now going through a return process for which eBay is standing behind the buyer.

I’ve bought and sold my personal stuff on eBay for 20 years but this means nothing to them.

My iPad sold to a buyer with 0 reviews.

After receiving the iPad the buyer claimed it did not work (it did as does all my stuff). They filed for a return and eBay forced me to to take it.

The buyer then waited a month to return ship even though eBay stated clearly they had to return it within 14 days.

ebay froze my funds in PayPal (I didn’t know they could do that - do you?)

So what did I get?

An empty box barely large enough to hold a softball and certainly not a full size ipad with case and charger.

I recorded opening the box but eBay won’t take video so I sent pictures.

I fully expect eBay to side with the scammer and screw me for about $180.

This has to stop. I’m quitting eBay and taking to social media.

I urge everyone who’s been screwed by the seller policies to post post post.

Had the same thing happen. I can't believe they can operate this way. They take total advantage of sellers.

I am having same experiences.  However ebay now has "customer representatives" to ASSist the seller.  Reps lie and say they have INVESTIGATED my claims.  It is so obvious that they have never looked at my listing versus buyers untrue statements.

So true! Ebay regularly punishes legitimate and earnest sellers by taking the buyer's side exclusively. They advise you to forfeit profits, pay costly return postage, and accept your once mint-condition merchandise back in damaged/used condition.  When the buyer is unjustly dissatisfied, they will take the buyer's side. It affords them not only to remain profitable, but to also appease government consumer agencies who receive complaints. All of this is done to the detriment of honest sellers.

I have the same problem. I sold a ThinkPad X1 nano on eBay and I provided the buyer everything, the invoice and also the email history (oder confirmation etc. from the Lenovo Germany). Then he opened the case that The item is fake, not as description. I explained to eBay that I have fulfilled everything in my product description and also the info which I gave to the buyer. But eBay customer service just gave me a feedback, they confirmed me that the item is not as description and I should accept the return. How ridiculous it is!! I provided everything and said you can check the SN in the official website, nobody cares!!!!!! If this case ends in that I should accept the return, I will never trust eBay again and I will delete my eBay account. I hope people will know that what eBay treats the sellers and should avoid the buyers and also eBay to hurt themselves.

@kensgiftshop I really think that eBay should have to reimburse the buyer themselves if they are going to FORCE a seller to take back a item.

That or just make the buyer keep the item.

Leave It To Me
