I purchased an item on Oct. 24 and the tracking (USPS priority) says it was out for delivery on Oct. 27 and has been “Awaiting Delivery Scan” since Oct. 28. No further updates or signature confirmation yet.
The USPS help request form just says “Your mailpiece is insured. Please file a claim”??
I informed the seller that the package appears to be stuck somewhere and I opened a missing mail search request today with the Post Office. The seller has been communicative, but is currently traveling and doesn’t have any additional information.
In addition to asking the post office to search for the package, is there more that I can do to find it?
Thanks for any info!

Speak with your carrier or the local post office.

Lately, the Post Office has been overwhelmed with delayed packages, and the missing mail search requests typically just end with a boilerplate of "We can't find it" ... but no one is looking for it. The one thing you can do is simply have patience.
(Media Mail is particularly sluggish, with sometimes multi-week delays).
Your seller is responsible for the package until the point that it is delivered to your residence. If it doesn't shake loose and get delivered, say, a week after eBay's promised delivery date, then you can request a refund from the seller for non-delivery. You have 30-days past the promised delivery date to claim non-delivery.

Call your local PO. If it says awaiting delivery scan, it is in your town. Talk to your mail carrier too.

Awaiting delivery scan 99% of the time means it was delivered but the carrier never scanned it.
Buyer says they are travelling. I would be willing to bet buyer is in another country and the address was a freight forwarder in either Doral, FL or New Castle, DE. If the package was insured, you have nothing to worry about. File the claim with USPS and they will most likely change it to delivered.

Well, I’m the buyer here, hoping my package is found. It’s the seller who is traveling.

That’s what the package research case does.

The OP already opened a package research case. That’s what it does

Reread please. Buyer is on here, says seller is traveling.

Thanks. I’ve actually been ordering a lot from eBay recently, and most packages have been arriving on time or even ahead of schedule.
Hopefully the Post office will find the package in time.
I’ve only had to request a refund maybe two or three times in the twenty years I’ve been on eBay, and in those cases the sellers were likely scammers. I don’t think that’s the case here, so refund would be the last resort if the package is really lost.

They said they filed a missing mail case, not a package research case. I'm told by USPS that those are handled differently.
OP may get somewhere speaking with their carrier while it's still fresh in their mind. It's been almost a week so they shouldn't wait for USPS to get around to the often ignored missing mail case.
You should get a description of the package from the seller @biohazard888 so you can jog your carrier's memory. They might have delivered it to a neighbor and forgot to scan it, but describing it to them could help track it down. If you can't catch your carrier, then call the PO because they can reach the carrier.
Since your OP says it was insured, it should be covered so neither you nor the seller will be out of pocket on this.

The package is most likely sitting at your post office waiting for you to pick it up.

The seller informed me it was in a medium flat rate priority box. Nothing particularly unique about the package it seems.
For context, I live in a high rise apartment in a large city. The building receives dozens of packages each day, sometimes multiple USPS truck deliveries in a day. My regular mailman typically distributes the letters and maybe small boxes that can fit in the mailboxes, while bigger items are separately received/signed for by my apartment building’s staff (I’ve asked them to check internally again just to be sure).
In the meantime, the seller asked his shipping manager to check with their contact at the post office. Hopefully between the two of us we can determine where it is.

I’m hoping so!

well I would advise you as the buyer: thirty days is the filing time for an item not as received.
Do not let that run out before filing a case to get your money back: if it does not show up.
Also if you are an honest purchaser ask for the mailing addy of your seller in case such happens. that it does not show up until after a case has been found in your favor.... Make it easy to return or to pay for is still desired..
One of them things that has been. and becomes a problem after ebay find for the purchaser in such cases.
