Auto Enrollment in Global Shipping Program

Today I sold an item to a buyer in France.  As I was printing out my shipping label I noticed that I was sending it to Kentuky to the Global Shipping Center.  I never signed up for Global Shipping, why would that have happened?  Normally I use Free Shipping and as a small perk when someone international orders something they pay the shipping which is a little more money on my return from the item sold.  Now, eBay decides they are going to populate all of my listings with Global Shipping so I can pay the shipping to Ky and they can make a few more dollars on the shipping discounts that they get.

The Customer Service guy was very nice and he showed me how to go into my setting to "opt out" of the Global Shipping Program.  Its my opinion that I should have been given the option to "opt IN" instead of being thrown in.

Maybe I just got way wound up over this little thing but why is eBay changing my account without telling me.  I admit, I dont read all of the emails but this is a hard change and not something minor.

Thanks

Re: Auto Enrollment in Global Shipping Program

If you have "free" domestic shipping, it applies to Kentucky; the buyer does not pay extra for that.

However, if your buyer from France has paid while you are still showing the Kentucky address, they have also prepaid GSP fees and Customs up front. You may need to generate a revised invoice if you plan to mail directly to your customer.

Tip: Always check your listings for the GSP clue -- which is "ships to U.S. and many other countries." Your Payments & Shipping tab also lists the GSP countries. New sellers generally are opted in to the GSP so you have to opt out via Site Preferences. Sneaky, yes, but sellers need to be aware of all aspects of their listings and monitor them.

Re: Auto Enrollment in Global Shipping Program

I am actually very upset about this auto enrollment.  I had to research legal copyrights in Germany since I got orders through this service to Germany.  I reproduce art and a lot of very old art that I sell that is perfectly legal in the U.S. and is not legal in Europe.  Fortunately I do not need to worry about this current order but selling a Da Vinci to Europe could have caused some problems for me.  Not to mention the  images I have paid for through specific museums and copyright holders to sell, some of them specifically state I can only sell in the U.S..   Not cool of Ebay to do this what so ever.  I should have had the option to opt in or an email saying I was auto enrolled.  I recieved nothing on this matter and all my listings were changed automatically.
