As a fairly new seller i was wondering about Refunds and Traffic

So I've been down the rabbit hole of threads and have been getting mixed feelings about to have Returns on or off. I mostly deal with Sports Cards and Other collectibles, so in saying that what happens if I agree to accept the returns, but the Item comes back worse then I sent it, or is a lesser item(Different #rd or Varient)?  Would Ebay back the seller, or do we have to eat it?

I'm all for returns if that means the Ebay Algorithms theory I've read means we get higher priority on the search engines. But then I read that's not true at all that EBay paradise as those accounts. That it goes by click traffic and sell rate, which makes sense because that's how they make money.

Sorry for the ramblin, the main question is how can newer sellers move up the priority search list. If any of that made any sense and someones got insight leave a message I'd like to know more. Thanks Kindy!

Not having returns does 2 negative things

a.) tells people you are not very confident in your item

b.) forces those in the know to just file a Not As Described (which would be easy since you grade one way and they grade another) and then YOU get to pay the return shipping (if you want it back) as well as have to refund 100%.

If you are Top Rated Seller with 30 day returns (doesn't have to be 'free' returns, can be 'buyer pays return shipping) and you are sent back something 'less than'.. you can deduct up to 50% from the return (although know that a.) buyers will fight it b.) you can't 'abuse' it or you will be cut off)

Thanks alot for your response! I'm gonna put the 30 day policy on. It does nake sense.  Do you know if that also helps the click traffic, it's just hard to get followers and be seen to gain them this early on.

I do 15 day returns where buyer pays. That would probably help. "No returns" does not mean "no returns". You have enough of feedback so I think you are OK.  Some buyers think when they get a refund and you state "no returns"...you might get nothing back. A buyer hates to have to to pack something for a return...buyer needs another envelope or box...tape...pack it...and the time to return it to you. Sometimes reading"returns" might keep those away from buying your items...and returning used items. I would also check buyer's feedback (some moderators will disagree), my opinion only. I do signature required sometimes...written or digital...I prefer the first one when its a newer buyer.

You will get different opinions. I don't know how it goes in the world of cards. I sell mostly electronic type products. I accept returns and it works for me though I have a 23 year old account with over 1000 feedback so the scammers/deadbeats steer clear for the most part.

EBay won't back you on ANY returns. Sellers have to know how to deal with returns, period.

Being TRS and accepting returns for 30 days allows me to refund 50% on an item returned in different condition. I have used that privilege one time.

In my business I think having free returns assures buyers they are dealing with someone legit. I get a lot of solid buyers that I dont worry about.  That is just what I see....
