Unfortunately there are uninformed sellers on all marketplace platforms that use the big-box form of packing. They are used to receiving packages with inadequate protection, so that's what they think is acceptable for sending packages.
They don't realize companies like Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc all run the numbers and know the $ they save on packing at that massive volume is greater than the $ loss they pay out on damages. Those sellers will eventually (hopefully) learn what not to do.
Fortunately not all sellers employ that method of packing. In fact, most of the feedback comments on my selling accounts are about how well items were packed and I believe that's one of the reasons I get so many repeat buyers.
