Am I still protected if I authorize an address change through UPS?

Screenshot_20220117-164852_eBay.jpg

I shipped an item to a buyer last week (a new laptop), the package was set to arrive today however, the buyer was unaware that the item required a signature upon delivery and was not home to accept the delivery. Upon realizing this the buyer messaged me asking if I could change the delivery address in which I informed him I was unable to but, he might be able to make some arrangement with the UPS Infonotice left on his door. With the infonotice, his options are to schedule a delivery date, pickup at a local branch, or change the delivery address (which I have to authorize).

The buyer seems to live in a more rural area so the nearest UPS branch is a far drive and picking it up is unfavorable for him. His other options are to change the delivery address (which I'm willing to authorize if I know I'm protected) or schedule it to be delivered this weekend (which I don't think he wants to do)

Any advice?

@condawg47 You will lose your seller protection if you alter or change the shipping address. That is something only your buyer can do. It's very kind of you to try to help your buyer but it's really their responsibility to handle address changes. Best bet for your sake is to allow the item to be returned to you, which will occur when buyer doesn't pick up the item. Once back in your hands you can refund for item price, minus shipping & fees. You can then relist and sell it to someone else or buyer can come back to repurchase (after having made whatever changes to their address needed). Best of luck to you....

Re: Am I still protected if I authorize an address change through UPS?

I would not feel good about authorizing the change if it was my laptop.

CC charge backs look for item to be delivered to the correct address.

Since there is no way for a seller to speak with anyone on a charge back.. as a seller this would be a no from me.

As for if eBay would cover you… might be a hard fight.

Re: Am I still protected if I authorize an address change through UPS?

I think the buyer is going to pick the item up at the UPS access point. Question, if this is the path the buyer takes, am I able to help him compensate him in any way? I feel bad he has to go so far out of his way so if that's what he does do I'd like to maybe send him some money or knock some off of the total to help cover gas and the hassle.

Thanks

@condawg47

No, if you change the address, you loose what little seller protection you have.

Want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and have a Safe and Happy New Year.

NO  Not at all.   Do NOT do that.

Absolutely @condawg47 you will not lose your seller protection for a false claim of item not received if the address change is for the same city and state.

Both eBay and PayPal only check UPS, FedEx, and DHL tracking down to the city and state, and not for the actual delivery address in that city and state.

Re: Am I still protected if I authorize an address change through UPS?

@condawg47 Well you are such a sweetheart, bless you. One of the kindest sellers on here. Because you have just had a transaction you can ask the buyer for his email address. Once you have that you can send him money via PayPal. Just look for the send money button in PP and follow the prompts. Again, that is very kind of you, and I hope I can purchase something from you this year. Best of luck to you....
