So I sold an item this morning and the buyer paid right away. They then sent a message asking if I could please ship to a different address. I sent them my standard answer that I have to ship to the address on the account and to go an edit the address on their account and then I can ship to that. Pretty quickly I get this message back:
I understand your concern.....i actually sold this game and locate due to being in the middle of a move...could u please just edit the address and ship to my customer.....As a fellow seller im sure u can understand my dilemma here.....
They then sent a message requesting I send them the tracking number once shipped.
It is a $9.00 video game with free shipping so its not a huge deal but I also just started less than 6 months ago and I don't have returns or negative feedback yet. I am trying to keep it that way.
Those with more experience what would you do here? I have till Friday.
Thank you for any advice.

@contentunderpressure Did you verify that the account that contacted you is the account that purchased the item? The fact they sold the item is not your problem. I would probably offer to cancel under these circumstances but it’s a $9 game so it’s not a high scam item & many sellers should oblige the request. Personally I just take issue with the seller making his problem your problem & basically asking you to forfeit your seller protection even if it is only a $9 sale.

Personally the do it as a fellow seller would make me want to do it less. 1. A fellow seller knows that voids protection. 2 a fellow seller should know they can just add the other address in Checkout. But if you aren’t concerned about losing seller protection on a $9 item you can do it

I did take a look after you mentioned it and the message was sent from the buyer who has very good feedback. I also looked at the sold items for that game and they did sell it yesterday. I assume that it isn't a scam but like you I do not relish them putting it on me. I just had an item misplaced last night that I sold myself and my husband and I spent an hour digging through boxes to find it. Now here is the same problem from someone else.

My biggest concern is getting negative feedback. Can they leave negative feedback if the transaction is canceled?

Yes they can leave negative feedback but I would think it would be pretty easy to get it removed because of the buyers request.

I sold an item and after he paid he requested that I mail to a different address. Unfortunately I had already printed out the shipping label so I declined and explained that I was required to ship only to the confirmed address or my seller protection would be voided. Next thing I knew he was threatening me with negative feedback so I called ebay and reported him. Ebay told me to ship it to him and they voided my label so I could ship it.

Seriously ? So Ebays advice was void the label and do what the buyer wants. Not that I'm surprised. What is the cost of the item in this case? Shipping to an alternate address will void buyer protection on PayPal and with a cc chargeback.

For $9 I would accomodate the buyer and ship it to the new address. Yes, you lose proection, but it is a very small amt of $$ and not worth scamming someone for.

I looked at your sold listings if it's the Gucci shoes I definitely wouldn't ship to another address. The Nike shirt I likely wouldn't either. Most everything else is pretty low cost

well most of us probably would do that but speaking for myself, if you threaten me when you are the one who made the mistake, I’m not going to accommodate you.

Actually it was a Nippon Chocolate Pot. At the time he was a new buyer with zero feedback. He had already circumvented my Best Offer option by messaging me directly to sell it to him for a flat fee including shipping. Then he was having difficulty paying because I had excluded shipping to P.O. Box addresses in my listing as I use Fedex to ship heavier packages. I had messged him multiple times before he paid to let him know that I would ship with USPS for him, but he wasn't responding. Then he made the payment with a different address and later asked me to ship to a P.O. Box address. I think he didn't want me to ship to a business address which is what was in the Paypal transaction. The address on the Paypal Transaction was an antique store. Anyway he screwed this up and then threatened me with negative feedback. So I reported him to eBay and explained what was going on. eBay CS wanted me to ship it to him anyway to the address he requested. I noted that he changed his user name a couple of days later too. The total for this transaction was $60 not including insurance which I pay separately. So I was leery because he was a new buyer with no history as he had just made his account the day before, and I think my chocolate pot was his first purchase. The transaction did go off without a hitch and ultimately he left me positive feedback. Problems seem to occur with new buyers because they don't know the policies, and I politely messaged him to read the rules regarding threats.

What's the insurance for?

Just wanted to mention that your ‘standard answer’ doesn’t solve anything as changing or adding an address to their account won’t change the ship to address if the item has already been paid for. To be covered for an inr claim or an unauthorized use chargeback you have to mail it to the address given at the time of payment. That address can be an address on their account or one they just added on at the time of payment.
As others mentioned you can either cancel the sale using problem with address option and ask the buyer to pay again using the correct address or just send the item to the the address requested after payment. You could also send it to the address that you see now but I wouldn’t do that as obviously that isn’t where the buyer wants it sent to.
