Hi friends,
I am getting stuck paying huge shipping amounts on flat rate priority shipping when my buyers are in, say WI, - I am near Buffalo/Rochester area in upstate New York.
I want to set up shipping using zip codes for exact amounts, but I cannot figure out how to do it.
Can anyone help me.? Yesterday, a buyer messaged me that her package was held up at the postoffice with 27.00 due. I am mailing her the 27.00. I lost money.
Help! I am so discouraged I'm thinking of quitting.
Linda

So, if I I multiply height times width times depth and the box is over 1728c inches- and I have a lot of big 30 inch dolls to mail coming up soon,- then what do I do??
Sometimes it's just impossible to avoid those surcharges. Pack the dolls carefully, but keep in mind that every inch of that box size can make a difference in the postage cost.
Let your buyers be the judge of whether the postage cost is worth it to them. You are fortunate to be in a location where there are plenty of potential buyers not too far away. It might be worthwhile to briefly mention in your listing details, "The postage cost shown is the actual calculated postage cost based on the package size, weight, and your location."

You need box LxWxH and total weight (item+box+packing materials) when you make your listing.
Your buyers will get the lowest prices shipping via USPS Ground Advantage... GA has tracking and included insurance up to $100. GA only takes 1-2 days longer than Priority. But your nearer buyers will probably get it as if it were sent Priority.
Keep in mind that Priority only includes up to $50 insurance. If you need to, you can buy extra insurance to cover the sold cost of item in case of loss (gone missing) and *maybe* damage.
Priority Mail and well, all mail *IS* Calculated Shipping (NOT "flat rate" which is a price YOU enter to ship everywhere, regardless of zip.)
You cannot use the Free Flat-Rate Priority boxes for non-Priority shipping. However, you CAN ship Priority in a regular brown box. You just need to enter the box size and weight accurately in the listing, and make sure you do NOT check one of the flat rate boxes.

Hi Linda,
I'm really sorry to hear about the shipping troubles you're facing. It can be frustrating. Have you considered using a shipping calculator that allows you to input zip codes for precise rates? This might help avoid such situations in the future. Don't be discouraged, we're here to support you!

Some tiers of Priority Mail used to include just $50 of insurance coverage, but now it's $100 for all Priority Mail, including Retail and Commercial (online).

Hi there.
Thank you.
Your message is very helpful to me and I marked it helpful.
So one more question.
What happens if you use a flat rate box and input calculated shipping (by accident)?
Will the buyer then owe money on delivery?

Hi there.
I marked your message helpful, just in case you want to know who did it.
I'm not sure if it shows I did it or not..
That's a good idea to say if the listing shipping will be calculated based on the package size weight and your location. Thank you.

Can you still use a flat rate box if you want to use calculated shipping?

Yes. If your listing is set up with calculated shipping, and if you offer a flat rate box, the listing will show the correct price for the flat rate box.
