I’ve been on eBay for 20 years and was super tired this week and accidentally swapped the shipping labels on two items. I’ve reached out to the buyers to let them know and asked they return the incorrect items for a refund (if requested) and I’ll pay the shipping costs.
Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, any suggestions? I’m basically relying on the kindness of strangers to make this right.
Cheers!

I'm sorry if I'm mistaking anything but the way you wrote this sounds like you are asking your buyers to ship the items back to you and then you'll reimburse them for the shipping. Is this correct?
If so, then that is not the best way to handle this. You never put any expectations on the buyer, that will not work in your favor. These are perfect strangers to you; they owe you nothing. You however do owe them the correct items they paid you for. I don't mean to sound harsh, this was a mistake, but it is still your error and yours to own, not the buyers. If I mistook what you meant, please excuse me.
What you could do is send a prepaid label to each buyer in advance. You need to make this as seamless as possible in order to try to convince them to help you out. Best of luck to you....

I did that once before, and did not realize it until the items were delivered. But luckily for me, both buyers sent incorrect items back, I reshipped, and reimbursed the buyers for postage. This was before shipping labels!

Don't beat yourself up. It happens. I've done it (once), and I had to have the buyers send to one another, then I refunded their postage. I was fortunate.
I now only process one order at a time. By doing this, I haven't made the same mistake since 1999.

Is it too late to recall the packages ?

If you shipped the $52 item to the person that bought the $450 item they'll be returning it no problem.
If you shipped the $450 item to the buyer that purchased the $52 item you'll play hell getting that returned. I suggest you use USPS Package Intercept to get it back if it hasn't already been delivered.
