Re: 3 items missing in the mail last 3 weeks

I'm having terrible trouble myself (just posted a thread about it).  Almost no international packages are making it past San Francisco since March 15.  All customers in EU or UK.  They're getting through to Canada and Australia, but not elsewhere.  Domestic seems to be doing fine so far.  I know there's the whole COVID thing since early March, but I never heard anything about packages simply not leaving the country.

Media mail is the last bin any postal worker touches - if there's time. Don't waste your money on media mail, there's no guarantee behind it.

You can file a missing mail claim on USPS website. You can also call USPS 1-800 number to request a search on the packages. However, what seems to get things moving along for me is signing up for email updates on the tracking numbers in question.

If you didn't purchase insurance for the packages, the USPS can look into them, but won't refund you for the items.

I suggest insuring through a third party so you are covered if packages aren't delivered. I use Shipsurance.

Check your tracking info. All items are being delayed for obvious reasons. eBay has issued several articles regarding package delays. Good luck!

Yes, First class mail does have damage and loss insurance. However, Media mail is not insured unfortunately. I wish you Best of luck.

Main reason for this also is because many of these mailing services piggyback on flights and since no one is traveling much and certain countries have ban now then longer to get flights and all that.

Now I am ranting.....

I understand about covid 19 and it mutates ...there is like 30 different strain already. I heard from Dr that there are many case once you get it does not get out of your system. Reality is not good but the economy is going to hurt us all before this covid  ccp does. So tired of this quarantine...

I work for USPS. First Class does NOT have built in insurance. Priority is the only service with built in insurance.

All carriers are having issues with the virus. Many sorting centers are closed due to lack of staff (USPS has had as of a week ago 19 mail carrier fatalities, this is just the people actually delivering mail not a USPS wide count) The sorting centers being mainly located in large cities have been hit the hardest. This isn't a job where people can just be hired and put to work. Postal workers get a rather strict background check and quite a bit of training which have been suspended.

I talked to the UPS driver that is delivering to my area. He said he hadn't been in a delivery truck in 10 years. He drives semi's. But they are so short staffed he took over a route.

Yes, many countries are not taking imports of non essential items currently.

More like Media Mail can be bumped of any transport to make room for higher class mail. It's still a good value if time isn't a factor.

Re: 3 items missing in the mail last 3 weeks

I actually had just geared up to sell again. Had a lady that wanted to sell an extensive collection of hollow wear at the B&M and I made a very low ball offer because it sells slowly and it would take up too much space. She took the offer though. I had just finished the research on each piece and was in the photo stage (being held up by rain as I take photos outside), when this started to roll through the country. Knowing I would most likely still be working and if I got it would have trouble shipping I stopped preparing to list.

I had around 12 incoming packages ordered right before lock down that are just now starting to trickle in. Actually not many are MM. I am glad that Friday I finally got my shoes. Payless closed and so I had to order me some tennis shoes. Thankfully I can now toss the ones that have been wearing that keep trying to fall apart.

Re: 3 items missing in the mail last 3 weeks

I appreciate the insight of somebody who works for USPS.  I imagine it's crazy around there right now.  What's strange is that none of my delayed packages are to any countries in that USPS alert list.  I guess it's just a backlog on this end that's causing the problem (at least for my packages).  It doesn't make it any less frustrating when I have a customer who paid $60 for priority mail international and it's been sitting in SFO since March 15 (did a trace on it and they say they can't find it).

Thanks for all you're doing at USPS to try to keep the system going.  It can't be easy.
