Tag or "@" Mention pull down list still not working right

sheila@ebay

Hi Sheila,

Sorry to bring this up again but the Tag or "@" Mention pull-down reply list is still not working.  This happens more times than not where the person I am Replying to is not on the pull-down list ... here's the thread I took the screen shot from if that helps ...

Re: They are coming for you - The eBay Community

Here's a screen shot of the pull-down list for the post I was replying to ...

Thanks for posting this. I thought maybe it was something unique to my device, so I'm glad you brought it up.

Hi @pburn ,

Sadly, this has been an issue for quite some time, well over a year.  It was addressed with Khoros before and may have been working for some for a while.  I find it is hit or miss with "miss" being more common.

Sigh...I'm not sure why this issue keeps coming back after getting resolved. nicole@ebay can you create a ticket please?

@mr_lincoln and @pburn we want to get this fixed for good so thanks for letting us know.

@mr_lincoln @pburn I looked into this issue extensively and found out that the expected behavior is when you use the @ mention it will show the OP and the four most recent posters. It might not suggest a specific user in the thread because they were not one of the four most recent posters or the OP.

If you are having any other issues concerning @ mentions please let me know and i'll be happy to look further into it!

@pburn   I read the reply twice ... still confused why when a member REPLIES to a specific post the author of said post is not on the list ... will respond to Nicole with Sheila on it to jog "our" collective memory about this ongoing issue ... I'm not missing something right?!?

Thank you nicole@ebay and I need to loop sheila@ebay in on this one as well as @pburn since  we are the only 4 on this thread.  So Sheila, if I understand the reply given to Nicole the pic on my OP is actually how the venue should function if the particular author of a thread I am replying to is NOT one of the most recent members who have replied to the thread ...

If memory serves, when this issue was first presented to the Community Team (Last year was it?) the idea was to have the author of ANY post be ON the @ list when someone replies ... or am I missing something here?  Nicole's reply "might" explain why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but when it doesn't it is a pain to get the right author @ mentioned.

So, the question becomes, is there a work ticket to have the @ list function fixed so the Author of a post that a member is replying to is on the @ mention list regardless of when they last posted on the thread (or if they are posting for the very first time?

@mr_lincoln

I think you read that right. If ten members have participated in a thread, the ids of only the OP and the LAST FOUR people who posted will appear in the selection box. So if you have chosen to reply to participant #3 way upthread, the member id won't show up, even if you've replied to that participant.

I also noticed if you do have to type characters to search for a member id, member ids of people who haven't even posted will show up in that box, so make some sense of that, if you can.

That does not make for a satisfactory Community experience, although I'm not sure if that's high on the list of eBay's Community concerns. *shrug*

@pburn   Yes, THAT is the other part of the problem, instead of the venue being intuitive and just returning IDs from members ON the thread (when you start to type after the @ symbol) you get a long list of members ...

I just thought the problem was with my age old kindle.  The @ hasn't worked right for me in a long time.  I have to type in nearly the entire name before it becomes a choice.  I can't remember all the id's!

I think this issue goes back quite a ways @evry1nositswindy , Sheila championed it getting addressed and some reported it was fixed although based on how Nicole said it currently works it could have worked if their @ mention on a post lined up with the current programmed functionality ... if memory serves this was discussed on a Mentor zoom meeting ...

@mr_lincoln Nicole is correct that this is now expected behavior. Though I don't agree that this is the way it should work especially if you have a thread with many posts (how do I spell that person's ID again???). To be frank, I don't think that this is the way it always worked too, and I also think the @ mention functionality has never worked properly.

Nicole did have a ticket open for this and I believe the status is pending closure. We might open this up again at a later date, once our other high-priority cases fall off the list, all of them Community backend cases.

We won't forget about this one. If you notice anything unusual, feel free to create another post on this topic.

Thank you for the follow up sheila@ebay  and just to state I have no issue with how nicole@ebay processed my most recent request and she accurately described how they (Khoros) currently have the system set up.  I don't like how it is set up and my preference would be to have the author of a post ON the @ mention list regardless of any other posting history on a thread.  Afterall, the author's ID is right there ...

Thank you again for your and Nicole's time.
