I think it may be the terminology of "member". When I was fairly new I once asked how do I become a member of the community because the reply buttons were greyed out and wouldn't let me reply. I was told I couldn't answer threads on "member to member" boards and given the "mentors" link. But I just meant "how do I become a part of the community" so I could reply to comments. I didn't know what a member was.
