In the previous iteration of the private message feature, there was a visual cue that indicated whether the recipient had opened the message. Is there a similar indication on this version? Am I overlooking it?
I sent someone a message several days ago, and I'd like to see whether it's been opened. In the previous version, there was a blue vertical line running along the left side of messages that had not been opened that would then go away when the recipient opened them.
Anything like that on this version? Anyone?

@pburn I wasn't aware of this, but I'll ask when I meet with Khoros tomorrow.
@pburn I talked to the TAM lead at Khoros and he said that not having the blue line indicating that the message was read by the recipient might've been taken out in the new version of private messaging. He's going to look into this and let me know if we can add this in.
I'll add this to the status of platform issues post.

Thanks, Sheila!
Just to be clear, it doesn't have to be the same visual cue that it was in the previous iteration--just SOME way to tell whether a recipient has opened a private message, whether a highlighting color change or a font color change or a "Read? Yes/No" or "Show all unread messages," or anything else that would indicate whether a message has been opened.

Please have an opt out button if this happens.
I personally believe it isn’t the senders business what the recipient has or hasn’t read.
Thank you.

It might be one or the other, but either way, I'll submit the request to opt out of this.

I'm glad that "feature" went away as I think it comes down to privacy. I read that the goal with the redesign was to make it more like standard e-mail. If that's the case then let the recipient choose whether or not to alert the sender that they read a PM by asking for a read receipt. That way the recipient can choose to say "no" if they want to maintain a level of privacy.

sheila@ebay I vote for NOT having this feature.
Sometimes I read a message on my cell phone but do not respond until the next day on my PC. OR sometimes I may not wish to respond for various reasons.

I'll first find out if we can add this feature back in and see if there's an opt out option. If it's an either or situation, I'm leaning towards not having the ability to see if the recipient has read an email.

I have been getting tons of what appear to be "scam messages" in the new private message app. As an ebay user with over 800 experience ratings I know what they look like. I recently received 5 on a car that's for sale and all were the same username format, a short word followed by 3 or 4 numbers. The messages were all stupid questions, like is this item still available or what is my price (the item is on auction, there is no set price, the end date is clearly stated). I am afraid eBay's new system messaging system is going to be terrible. Especially when used with eBay motors since they are getting texts from my phone, setting me up for spam texts no doubt.
