Lots of scrolling in the new format. Yuk! Is there a fix?

On my MacBookPro 15 inch screen, the new Community format requires LOTS of scrolling.

1) The landing page for any Discussion type is rather useless.  That big purple section takes up the entire page, and I can't see any topics.

2) When I scroll down to look for topics, I can see only 3 at a time on my screen.  That's VERY annoying.

I realize that eBay could care less about users who have laptops and use them every day.  They are, however, useful for Zoom meetings.  Can you even do Zoom on a cell phone?

I looked at the platform on my iPhone.  It's nice, but I don't look at Community on my iPhone.   IPhone is when I'm out and about or on vacation.  Community is very, very low on my list when I'm out and about or on vacation.

Question #1:  How do I get rid of or shrink the big purple blob at the top of the screen on my laptop?

Question #2:  Is there a way to shrink the text size so that I can see more than 3 topics at a time on my laptop?

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

To shrink text Control Plus/minus or in Chrome/Firefox etc open tab on far right with settings.

It's definitely not PC friendly and makes it difficult to find discussions you were previously following.

@community_team: The amount of wasteful whitespace in this format is really getting ridiculous. The amount of vertical scrolling is likewise. Every page revision in the past few years yields less content than the version it replaces.

There is no reason why you can't sit down and figure out how to make the pieces fit, to make efficient use of screenspace to get the most information, the most content, into a view that is intuitive and does not require so much scrolling.

No matter what you may have been told, oceans of whitespace are not trendy or easy on the eyes; they simply indicate that someone could not be bothered to put themselves in the user's seat and figure out the best way to make the interface as useful as possible.

At 1280 x 1024 on my desk top without changing the size just for reading here, the opening question fills the whole screen area.

Desktop Version:

To minimize scrolling, you could also try to use your "Page Up" and "Page Down" buttons. I rarely use them, because I don't usually have cause to--and much prefer to scroll, under "normal" circumstances--but I imagine I could managed to develop that alternative.

Nothing like designing a site that the user has to adapt to, rather than designing the site to accommodate the user.

That's really it, in a nutshell. The current design scheme is going into things bass-ackwards, and without any clear goal in mind that's apparent to anyone who has used the site to any great extent in the past.

To begin with, what were the problems that this redesign is intended to solve? Its biggest issues were technical, in terms of things that didn't work properly (e.g. reply numbering that failed to update with new totals, or difficulty in editing quoted material without accidentally deleting hidden text markers, as well as code that seemed unable to remove supposedly-incorrect HTML code after detecting it). Whether these issues have been corrected as part of the new revision remains to be seen.

In short, the things needing to be fixed were technical issues, not formatting problems. This house needs structural repairs, not new wallpaper.
