Item Numbers in Posts

I guess I am a little confused here.  I read the rules and I understand that you cannot post an item number for the purposes of promoting an item.  Is it okay to have an item number in the post when asking and answering questions?  There were some questions from buyers and sellers that I wanted help with, but I was not sure if I could discuss the specific item number.  Also, is my topic in the correct category?  Please let me know.

Item Numbers in Posts

I know that we can ask for an item number. Myself and some others do it regularly, like when a buyer is upset because they lost an auction and they say that ebay allowed bids after it had ended. If they haven't provided a link or item number, we'll ask for it so we can explain the bid history and how the time is displayed on the listing. Same with shipping cost issues, if the buyer says the seller changed the description after they won or raised the shipping cost, responders will ask an item number so they can determine what really happened & give proper advice.  I think the only time an item number wouldn't be allowed is if it is to name and shame. I do recall that one point we weren't supposed to post item numbers & links to listings but the guidelines don't mention that rule anymore.

@missjen831

Thank you so much clarifying!

After reading the rules, I thought I couldn't ask.   I was trying to find the item numbers other ways.

This should make answering questions a little easier.  Smiley Happy
