Asking me to select Allstate coverage when only putting the item in my cart, not buying it...Scary!

The Allstate purchase protection insurance coverage pop-up that appears after clicking "Add to Cart", seems like another negative buyer's experience.

It caused me confusion and gave me impression of an automatic checkout process, leading me to actually close the entire window thinking I don't want to buy this item right now, I only want to think about it for later...

The first couple of times were rather scary, why would you ask me that when only I'm only adding it to a not checking out...too scary.

The item does go into my cart after I click proceed, but still scary...I don't think this popup should even come up anywhere unless I'm actually buying the item as in checking out...Bad buying experience imho...

It is a common practice on other sites as well.

Perhaps it's an index of how desperate for revenue is eBay.

@fbusoni

I might replace the term "thirsty" or "hungry" for desperate, but I don't disagree with your appraisal.

And I 100% agree with @krazzykats it certainly does NOT enhance the buyer experience.

Attempting to sell me something when I am only window shopping, is far from buyer friendly imho.  It could be a hard-sell tactic, but no thank you, I am not buying right now.   Why irritate a potential buyer?  I don't get it.  This upsell ad could wait until checkout, and then might be more appropriate on something like this, but then again, maybe not...but simply putting an item in my cart is not buying it, I may find it cheaper, buy it from another, or change my mind about buying it all?

My point is that I am not purchasing the item right now, so why is there an Allstate upsell ad before I can simply add the item to my cart?

It is frustrating, and initially, I thought the ad was a commitment to buy.

Every negative or stressful online thing only makes me to turn to other activities like watching television, sleeping or doing things that I have control over what I want to see and avoid.

So now I am of the firm belief there is an entire generation of individuals struggling with attention deficit disorder due to the overwhelming number of simultaneous distractions when trying to do one simple thing...  ᓚᘏᗢ
