Time and again I have made a post in the community forums only to have people comb through my eBay account and find things to critcise. I don't like this. I suppose I should make a posting id but why automatically link a users forum posts to their eBay transactions / listings for everyone to see.

Some members believe that showing their sales history gives them credibility. Even if there wasn't an easy way to see a poster's listings, it would still be possible to do an advanced search on their ID. So everyone has a choice: Post with your regular ID, or set up a separate posting ID to be anonymous. Or post with your buying ID. Or learn to ignore (or value) the criticisms. Suit yourself.

As other people have stated, you can create a separate ID for posting on the boards.
However, I know some people on the boards can be very coarse and disrespectful, but there is also another way to look at it. When people comb through your listings, you are getting attention, the people may find something they are earnestly interested in purchasing. Additionally, some people will give creative suggestions that if you implement the suggestions, they may help you sell your items.
I have had people message me privately letting me know I made a mistake on the listing. I appreciate it because my typo might be the reason my item isn't selling. I have done it for other people too. Some thank me, some ignore me, but at least it's a chance to improve your chances of selling.

Hi Doug
Why does this post indicate an ebay staff member has replied ?
before my post I see 2 replies, none from any of you.
Thanks
Edit now shows 3 replies with mine and I added the screen shot
I'm not Doug (obviously), but I'm familiar with this thread. Many, many, many comments were deleted by a moderator--one of those comments was posted by an eBay moderator who suggested the thread was "getting heated." So you can see that a moderator had posted a comment, but that comment has since been deleted. All that remains of the original thread are the original post and two of the original replies.

Hi @labs118,
A number of posts were removed from this thread yesterday due to posting violations. I did reply to this thread, but I removed my post later on as it no longer made sense as the context was lost due to the fact that other posts were removed.
It looks like the staff reply indicator doesn't go away if a staff post is removed.
Thanks!

@pburn
Hi & Thanks
I certainly wouldn't want you to get in trouble so please be careful because of this

In can be very concerning when posts disappear for one reason or another, but you are assuming something that isn't quite correct. When Pburn posted what she did, the posts she was quoting from had not been removed. She is a solid member of this community but she doesn't have a crystal ball to know that the quoted posts were going to be removed. They were removed to avoid confusion, nothing more. She did nothing wrong and did not breach the policy in which you quoted.

I think labs is referring to this afternoon's post.

Thanks for your reminder about the Rules of Engagement and the concern for my community welfare! I am familar with that particular rule; however, thankfully, my post didn't reveal any specific issues with the thread or with individual posts. I was careful not to go into any details about what was posted, or what was said in any of the comments. I was relieved to read that Alan came along and posted pretty much what I had.
Thanks again for the concern and the "heads up!"

No problem they have lightened up then on this I guess just like now being able to say the word Amazon instead of River and per Alan we can post item numbers for the sake of helping
In the past you never whispered the words Mod's removed posts. Didn't matter if you spoke of the content or not it was a smack on the hand.

Wow. Always good to know some background on the history of the discussion boards. I do see people use "The River" in their posts, and I always find it rather annoying! LOL! Glad to know I could use the actual name of the company if I wanted.
Thanks again!

We have been able to say words such as Amazon, Bonanza, Etsy, etc. for a long time. Some just didn't realize they could. It isn't anymore complicated than that. What we can't do is suggest that someone to sell on those sites instead of here or give links to those site. That is expressed in the rules as a no no. Other than that, you can use these words. I have for a very long time without issue.
