wondering if anyone has figured out how to get visibility on Ebay.

I have over 200 items listed, but rarely do they get looked at.. with the outreach of Ebay, they should at least be getting views.  Cannot afford to do a store yet, and at this rate, never will.  I offer some free shipping.  I keep relisting and adding new listings.  Ebay will only let me cancel an "order" when someone doesn't pay and out of the little I've sold, I have had a couple of those lately.  I tried to ask a representative when I called on another issue, and the guy just said I have to do my own promoting.  I have added my seller ID to my shop advertising.  But Ebay is supposed to be advertising.. all I ever hear in this part of Iowa is about Ebay motors which sounds like Ebay owns everything in it...  I have a wide variety of items, and I check if things are selling before I list anything...  what do you think??

Also, ebay stopped being about auctions at least 10 years ago. Most customers won't even look at auction listings anymore.

@van4653

I see you do auctions.

Have you thought about listing as a fixed priced so buyer can buy it now and not have to wait a week to see if they win the auction or not?

Have a great day.

I agree - I've only heard eBay Motors on the radio - I don't watch TV but I'm online a lot never see anything unless I happen to be on Tik-Tok.

As for getting the eyes:  You're selling in a very crowded category.  As someone who also sells in a supersaturated category my suggestion is to improve your photos - you've got nice stuff and some is really interesting, but often I can barely make out detail.  You want it to really stand out.  Clean up the backgrounds, brighten the photos and get any body parts out, and save the measuring stick for the second photo, not the gallery (that way you can get a closeup with measuring stick which makes it easier to read on mobile). Really make them pop - shopping is very visual and when someone looks at their search returns page you want YOUR image to stand out.  A piece of poster board and a clear table top will do the trick insofar as background, with a good light or natural lighting.

You're selling mostly vintage collectibles and pricing may be an issue on some of them, especially as a starting price for an auction.

Re: wondering if anyone has figured out how to get visibility on Ebay.

Like another say you might want to try buy-it-now but make sure you stagger things. So maybe delete 10 a day and relist as a buy it now.  Lot of people don't have money right now. someone was asking about holiday spending and I did some checking and notice a huge drop in listings(in a certain category)and sales were or seemed pretty pathetic at 18k over the last 60 days in a category that once had I believe 45k listings but now only 25k.  Inflation is a major problem right now for many a person.  I haven't had a sale since Sept.  22nd and I'm mostly offering Halloween stuff.  Economy,  Ebay tinkering too much and people possibly spending way too much money on politics is what I see.

Re: wondering if anyone has figured out how to get visibility on Ebay.

@van4653  As suggested, switch some of your listing to Buy it Now. You can add the Make an Offer option, if you want. So many people are hurting financially right now, our ebay sales are down over 60% what they were 6 months ago. Our brick & mortar business is still doing well for now. I looked at your items and they are really nice. If you change some to Buy it Now and Make an offer, people might be more interested if they can just buy it right away. Letting them make an offer makes them feel like they're getting a deal. Good Luck!

Re: wondering if anyone has figured out how to get visibility on Ebay.

One small thing you might try is looking at your pictures again.  You can easily crop them to really focus on the item you are selling.   Sometimes a good picture can help you stand out in a crowded field.

Also don't relist.  Try relisting with the 'sell similar' option instead.  This  should show up as a "new" listing and give you some fresh eyes.  You might try that after you crop your pictures to show a closer look at the items.

Good luck

Get better items, lower your prices, dump the auctions (or at least list as Auction once and then switch to Fixed Price).

I've seen eBay ads for Motors and another category or two on Facebook. Drawing a blank on what the other category was at the moment though. Vintage something or other maybe.

Re: wondering if anyone has figured out how to get visibility on Ebay.

Doing an auction usually means a seller doesn't know what the value of something is...and usually start at a low price...I used to do auctions a lot. I think my best auction was listing one stamp at a penny and it went for $600. dollars. Do buy it now and list a few just "auction" not buy it now or make an offer. Having buy it now stuff you can actually keep posting and posting. I used to have around 20 auctions a week. I am up to 800+ buy it now. I am selling stuff. But this gives me more time to keep listing as well as getting buyers to buy my stuff. Some do auctions for quick money as well...It's a quick sell if it sells. After a 7 day auction you sometimes have to wait longer for the buyer to pay. I may return to auctions but I want a big listing of maybe 1500+ before I do some auctions. I saw one seller with 10,000+ stamp listings here. Competition is fierce here.

Re: wondering if anyone has figured out how to get visibility on Ebay.

You need to stop dong auctions. Your starting prices are equal or higher than what most other sellers ask using BIN. No one is going to bid on an auction unless the starting price is about 3x less than your current starting bid prices. It is about the only way you will get more visibility.

Re: wondering if anyone has figured out how to get visibility on Ebay.

People have to actually see the auctions before price makes a difference.  I am not new to this. Just hadn't used ebay for awhile so they got rid of my other seller ID.   I have to price what I need because nothing ever has competes cause no one even sees the listing in the first place.   Am buried somewhere.  I didn't inherit my items.. I have a brick and mortar business..

When people search, either web or mobile, a page of search returns comes up.  Your item will come up on this SERP like anyone else's, but if they don't click into it, they're not going to view it.

We're trying to help you get more people to actually view your listing instead of running right by it because the photo is too dark and cluttered to see, it's an auction with a high price, etc.

ETA:  You have a huge amount of competition both online and offline - it's important to optimise your listings as much as possible.
