does anyone else wonder,, why does't ebay have an up to 5 pounds ships for $6.49 like posh**** negotiated for all of it's sellers and buyers..
Ebay has much more volume and marketshare ,,certainly the reason must be because they didn't even try!

Mercari just raised their rates.
It is now a flat $11 for 1-3 lbs Priority Mail.
ComBase rates for zoned (1-8) Priority range from $6.95 to $15.28....anything less than 3 lbs is being overcharged ... you only go over $11 at 3 lbs for zone 6.
So .... no deal there 😞

They have negotiated better rates. They just chose to pocket more, rather than give it back to the sellers. You know, the ones with the actual product to sell.

If you go back and read any articles about the Poshmark shipping agreement, they got an AVERAGE price. They did NOT get a special discount.
The buyers and sellers of small items are subsidizing the large heavy items. Poshmark is like Ebay for Dummies, they make it easy so anyone could do it. Do you really think people like the tee sellers or decals would go for $6.49 shipping? Like health insurance it only works if everyone is in the pool. Even people who could ship for less than $1.

Awww ... c'mon .... don't let actual facts get in the way of a good eBay bashing story!
I use eBay labels and have not paid more than $4 to ship any single item to any buyer in the past three years. If eBay had a flat $6.49 rate I'm sure clothing sellers would love it - but it would kill my business.

I love the fact that nobody mentions Poshmark's fees are higher than Ebay's. Guess it's okay for them to charge 20% but it's horrible that Ebay charges 10%.

Most of what I mail out weighs 5-10 oz. I`d hate to have to pay $6.49 per. In fact, I couldn`t sell my items and charge $6.40 per. No one would pay it. I do think ebay could do better than they are though. Ebay sellers ship a lot of items and it should warrant a bit of a bigger discount over smaller companies IMO.

Its not just the final value fees on the shipping price. Lets say ebay negotiated a first class rate of $2.50 for any and all. We are now being charged $2.96 to $3.25 on average with zone first class. Not only would they get 9-12% over the shipping cost but they would be pocketing the difference in the retail rate we pay from the wholesale rate ebay pays. There is just NO WAY ebay has not negotiated a better rate than what my 1 man operation can negotiate through usps commercial.
Ebay has only learned how to make money by bilking sellers. If they realized they could get 9-12% of more sales instead of 9-12% of shipping charges............by lowering their sellers over all cost which would lower the buyers cost which = more buyers buying here..........they could possibly compete.
But as it is.......the big river that is just getting bigger because not only are the buyers going there but us sellers are as well.

Why would Ebay get a rate of $2.50 if First Class packages are all more than that? Poshmark charges an average. There's no way you could get $2.50 for First Class.
It also sounds like Poshmark charges 20% fees. Would that be better?
Small sellers would be charging the $6.95 PLUS the final value fees would be higher on the item selling price?

@lasantino wrote:um,,, i purchase from posh all the time,, i never just buy one item,, i buy multiple items from the same seller.. so the cost is still a flat 6.49....
posh sells shoes and homegoods and a lot of other stuff now..
the point is,,
if posh could negotiate that deal,.. ebay certainly should have been able to negotiate that deal..
The point others are trying to help you understand is that if eBay negotiated the same deal which means all transaction under five pounds would have a mandatory shipping rate of 6.49
Which eliminates nearly all items on eBay certainly under 10 dollars, 15 dollars and probably under 20 dollars.
Shipping cost 6.49 + FVF on shipping .65 = 7.14 before you even factor in shipping and packaging supplies, item cost, selling FVF's, payment processing fees
Do you really want to give eBay control over how you ship? You would not have any choice of what service to use. eBay would auto issue shipping label which means you have to meet the estimated time frame based on when the label was printed, which takes more control from sellers. Buyer like the flexibility eBay sellers can give them.
As much as many like to talk bad about eBay, sellers do like the fact we still have more control over our businesses here than at other marketplaces.
Good Luck Selling!

Lol man your light bulb just lit up haha.
Its not IF. It IS. There is no way in the world the 2nd largest ecommerce sales site on the planet doesnt have a deal worked out for better prices. Think about this for 2 seconds. I can ship 6 boxes weighing 84 lbs to amazon warehouse for $35 using amazons negotiated shipping rates. But here shipping one box weighing 9lbs the same distance would cost me that much.
That is why SELLERS pay for return shipping is such a big deal. If sellers pay it means the transaction goes through ebay. If buyer pays its unlikely they are buying a label through ebay.
Ebay says we are getting a discount to ship through them but its the exact same discount as any business that signs up for a commercial shipping rate. Now I think top rated or store holders get an additional tiny discount.......but its nothing like the likely flat negotiated rate a retail giant could command easily. Seriously think of the negotiating power ebay has then its a joke to consider otherwise.
Ebay labels are prepaid and printed at home. Means post office employees are able to take these in easy with no time wasted. It means labels are scanned instead of read and put into computers. It means usps is getting ONE GIANT payment every so often instead of millions of baby payments from us that have to be tracked and accounted for. There are MILLIONS of dollars in savings for the usps in time and efficiency and accounting in doing it this way. I assure you Ebay is not so stupid that they didnt realize this.
This makes it even easier.
Amazon shares its shipping savings. Amazon = big giant rules the world
Ebay eats the shipping savings. Ebay = losing ground.
Amazon will take a loss to keep sellers happy when its their fault.
Ebay hasnt made a mistake yet. All mistakes or bad decisions is "a sellers cost of doing business."

Im not suggesting that $2.50 is the number. Just giving an example.
But to answer your question as to why ebay would get a better rate. See my post just above this one. Its not rocket science. Its just business and business = all about the money. Ebay creates tons of savings and capital for usps so usps shares the wealth. Why would you think otherwise when amazon is doing it with fedex and ups and shows the information? Why would ebay not do it?
