I just listed a tape recorder. I can see the listing using the active listings in the seller hub. But using "pioneer rt-707" in a search from the ebay home page doesn't find my listing. Using "rt-707" does find my listing. The title of my listing is "rt-707 pioneer tape deck". and using the complete title in a search works ok. Any idea why searching with the first word "pioneer" doesn't find my listing? thanks

Thanks.. Don't know if that was the problem, but will pay attention to titles in the future.
Actually, I think what happened here was that as soon as I listed, then I revised it, and then revised it again. And I think that screwed up eBay's indexing.

eBay's search sometimes does some odd keyword grouping.
A search for rt-707 pioneer will not necessarily turn up the same results as a search for pioneer rt-707.
For best results your title should be in the same order that you think your customers would most likely search. If you want your listing to appear in a search of pioneer rt-707 then your title keywords should be in that order.

Someone looking for a pioneer reel to reel will type reel to reel in the search box. You do not have reel to reel in your title. It is imperative to always type what you are selling into the title.

Got to give ebay a little time after listing it! Good luck with this!

I plugged in 'RT-707' and yours is visible (to me) as the 2nd item of 268. (Listing #134005341562.) It's all good.
Searching 'Pioneer', however, brings up 590,000+ results. I'm not going to scroll through those. Good luck.

How much is shipping on that tape deck? In your description you say $30 while on the shipping & payments tab it says $40. Which?

That only works if there is a space in front of the "-"; if the dash immediately follows a letter or number, it will be treated as any other special character like a period, underscore or single space (in a title as opposed to in your search terms), and will match any result containing those characters in between the rt and the 707.
A search for pioneer rt-707 turns up the same results as a search for pioneer rt_707 or pioneer rt707.

Thanks for the reply, Rockstar. Please try a search "pioneer rt-707" . PS: Haven't listed much lately. I remember that sometimes the listings would not show up until later, but some searches work on my listing and some do not. It seems to be that the word pioneer being the first word in the search doesn't work. I even tried "pioneer tape" and "pioneer recorder" and "pioneer deck". and none of them work either. thanks

I tried it that way and didn't find it (pioneer rt-707) at all among the 319 listings I saw. I even tweaked the filters. 🤔

My searches using pioneer rt707 tape deck bring up 30 items but not yours. Other variations starting with the word pioneer also do not bring up yours.
I would edit the title to put Pioneer first and also add reel to reel in the title.

Thanks. that verifies my results also. Maybe it has to do with eBay index scheme. I'll try again tomorrow. Too bad. Anyone using "Pioneer rt-707" won't find my listing...at least for now. Wonder if that will affect sells? thanks and have a good night.

I think revising causes it to re-index just like a new one. But if they can't find it, they won't buy it. Upward and onward and all...

People will find it if they search that particular item as stated but any normal buyer wanting a reel to reel won't. That is why I told you to change the title to include reel to reel as that is what you are selling. Good luck !
