what happens if i don't accept a return ? ( ebay is saying I am not obligated to accept)

a buyer is requesting a Return, the Order was for 2 items at the same time, but they're only requesting return for one as "Bought by my daughter without my authorization"... I usually don't accept returns (of course except for INAD) , should i accept, I'm scared of being scammed

I would accept the return. If you recieve it back in a different condition or it is some kind of scam contact eBay.  You do have the option to deny the return but maybe then they will do a credit card chargeback and lose the item and the money. I wouldn't be too concerned about being scammed. It sounds to me like buyer is just abusing return process to get a free return shipping label.

I believe the return will be on their dime if it's a remorse return. So you might be better off ok'ing the return in case the buyer gets any ideas to force the situation.

If the doll checks out, cool. If not, can adjust the refund a bit. This might only be possible if you're Top Rated though.

Since it's a remorse return and since you charge separately for shipping, they pay return shipping and you can also issue the refund for just the purchase price of the item.

I don't have a return policy but I appreciate buyers who are honest enough to admit remorse and I accept the return. Why make a buyer keep something they don't want?

What makes you think you wouldn't lose a chargeback just because you have proof of delivery? Customers can filed for a chargeback for for more reasons than not receiving the item. Proof of delivery does not help win a case where the customer claims it was not in the described condition, etc.

Was the order for two items paid together?  Or was it two individual transactions paid separately?

Ebay's seller protection should protect the OP in the event of a chargeback. (I've also won chargeback disputes when it was shown that I abided by the requirements for seller protection.)

One order, two items, paid together.

@yuncreations

Then the "daughter" story doesn't hold up.

For as long as I can remember, when a 'return' is requested, it is for the whole order.  One payment, one order. Keep that in mind if you allow the return.  You may end up getting back the partial order, but the subsequent refund may be required for the full amount.

Just something to consider.

No one here can tell you what will happen.

All we can do is tell you what might happen.

  • You might never hear from your buyer again.
  • The buyer might file a "not as described" dispute and return it anyway.
  • The buyer might file a "not as described" dispute and damage the item on purpose.
  • The buyer might file a "not as described" dispute and return an empty box.
  • The buyer might file a "payment dispute" and get a refund and keep the item and you pay a $20 dispute fee.
