First, good luck. A lot of long time sellers would like to sell on ebay, but lately it is just not happening. If you want to be successful do some research on what to sell. Ebay has some help on what is in demand. Also, remember you will be responsible for the cost of returns, and possibly the losses that come with unscrupulous buyers. Whatever you sell, you need to give yourself plenty of margin to cover those losses, and well as seller fees and paypal fees. On low end items I would figure a five times mark up. As the price goes up, of course, the mark up goes down. Once you figure out what you want to sell, and the price you need to get to both cover costs and make it worth your while, search that item in ebay and look for what price you might expect to get. You can click on a seller's other items and then at the bottom of the left column click show sold only. That way you can see if the item is actually selling, and how many. I wish you the best, warn you that ebay can be very seller unfriendly, and suggest you dip in a toe and try it. Don't want to get buck naked and find out the creek ain't that deep.

Buy low. Sell high.

Just know that eBay runs your business, not you. They will help buyers rob you because it helps their bottom line. Just ignore anything called seller protection. It doesn't exist.
Plan on your fees increasing every quarter. No, you will not get better service for your money.
Start a Paypal account. Their fees will increase, so pay attention to updates.
Try to find items that turn over quickly, are inexpensive to ship, and that customer can't easily say are damaged. Never try to sell anything you can't afford to have stolen by eBay.
Being an eBay seller is a hard life.
Good luck

If you don't know how to ship it, don't list it.

Don't dropship from China.
Start off selling items you already have.

From what I've read on these forums, there are certain categories that are very high risk, particularly for a new seller, such as computers, cell phones, etc.
Read the information on the links people have given, and maybe start small with lower-cost items to get used to how things work.
A lot depends on what you sell. Some items are more in demand than others. If you're thinking of listing something, you can do some research for pricing by checking the sold listings (in the search function) to see what price range the item is selling for. You can also see from what's listed if it's a very saturated category or item.
Although some sellers are saying they just aren't getting any sales (I'm not either), during my searches I find a lot of sellers who seem to be doing quite well in certain categories.
Buy a scale for determining postage costs. They're not very expensive and someone may come along to recommend one. You'll want to know how much your item will cost to ship before you list so you don't get surprised by a high postage fee.
Those are just some of the things I can think of.
Good luck!

Start with smaller items. Learn your mailing prices keep up with pay hikes. U.S.P.S. Regional boxes saves. Order free open a postal account. Like others say Good Luck. Depending on what you have to sell is # 1 thing. Some items will sell like hot cakes. Others will sit on the shelf. The bucks are out their you just got to find them.
